  • G.SKill PI -

    Hello! First post here...

I'm going to be installing, among other parts, some new RAM this weekend. My mobo is the GA-P35-DS3R matched with an E6750 CPU. I'll be installing the following G.Skills:

    Newegg.com - G.SKILL PI Black 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

    here are the specs:

    <table class="specification" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr><td class="name">Capacity</td> <td class="desc"><script type="text/javascript">document.write(neg_specification_newli ne('4GB (2 x 2GB)'));</script>4GB (2 x 2GB)</td> </tr> <tr> <td class="name">Speed</td> <td class="desc"><script type="text/javascript">document.write(neg_specification_newli ne('DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)'));</script>DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)</td> </tr> <tr> <td class="name">Cas Latency</td> <td class="desc"><script type="text/javascript">document.write(neg_specification_newli ne('4'));</script>4</td> </tr> <tr> <td class="name">Timing</td> <td class="desc"><script type="text/javascript">document.write(neg_specification_newli ne('4-4-4-12'));</script>4-4-4-12</td> </tr> <tr> <td class="name">Voltage</td> <td class="desc"><script type="text/javascript">document.write(neg_specification_newli ne('1.8V - 1.9V'));</script>1.8V - 1.9V</td></tr></tbody></table>

should i expect to have to change anything in the BIOS or would you expect the mobo to recognize the timings and be good to go?

    thanks!

    Re: G.SKill PI -

If you have the board set-up and running already and plan to just swap memory in, you may need to adjust timings and volts b/c of existing ram, but more than likely it should be fine.
I went from a 2x1gig set of GSkill 2BGHZs and it detected the timings on it's own. Of course my HZs were 4-4-4-12 stock.
    Gaming rig:
    XP Sp3
    Gigabyte EP45-UD3R bios F7a beta rev 1.0
    Q9550 GO OC'd 4ghz(471x8.5) with tuniq tower
    1 stick 2gigs G-Skill PI 8800s b/c this damn board won't run both sticks
    eVGA 8800Ultra Vanilla w/backplate--650core/1127mem/1654shader

(2)320gig seagate 7200.10 sata extra storage

Use CPU-Z and check in bios it will show 4-4-4-12, everest might show incorrect report ram timings

                Re: G.SKill PI -

Everest is a nice program but I don't believe it is entirely accurate. I agree CPU-Z is the way to go for this parameter. Your question is a good one though. I can see where the confusion occurs. It looks to me from the line:

                Memory Timings 4-4-4-12 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS)

That your mem is running just fine.

                This data:

                @ 400 MHz 5-5-5-15 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS) / 23-51-3-6-3-3 (RC-RFC-RRD-WR-WTR-RTP)
                @ 266 MHz 4-4-4-10 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS) / 16-34-2-4-2-2 (RC-RFC-RRD-WR-WTR-RTP)
                @ 200 MHz 3-3-3-8 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS) / 12-26-2-3-2-2 (RC-RFC-RRD-WR-WTR-RTP)

Just confuses me. One day I may look into exactly what it means but currently I don't care.

                  G skil black pi 6400

If using the 4-4-4-12 special epp.it needs 1.8-1.95 v up to 430-433 mhz fsb
                  433fsb-453fsb it needs 2.0v
Above 450 mhz fsb you have to use 5-*-*-*-*
500mhz fsb(1000mhz mem) works stable with 5-5-5-15 at 2.1-2.2v setting depends on your vdroop.(I need 2.22v set in bios,2,16v with v droop) to hold 1000mhz.
I cant get it to boot above 1015 (507mhz)mhz even with 2.26 v set in bios and i dont want to go higher

thanks for the reply kick, i don't necessarily follow it, but i'll try to figure it out.

...and Grippy, yeah, plugged them in, booted up and it seems that they're running just fine. i'm still not sure at what speed they're running or if i'm getting the most out of them.

:) sorry, to be sure they are running at the 4-4-4-12 you may have to set those timings manually in the bios.
When i started up my pc first it was running the memory at 5-5-5-15 timings .
I dont use the 4-4-4-12 settings anymore because i have the memory overclocked above 450(900mhz).

                          Re: G.SKill PI -

according to the cpu z check that grippy suggested you are running at 5-5-5-15 timings .
So no your memory is running at 5 timings. The everest report doesant show what your memory is running at,it just shows "profiles" that are imprinted on the memory.
You will have to set the values yourself in the bios.Since your only on 380 fsb they should be fine .You wont need over 1.9v either for the memory.
There is a setting on my board to use enhanced performance profile(epp) for the memory .
I never tried it,i just entered the values myself.
That would be in MIT motherboard intelligent tweaker,
Set ram timings to manual instead of auto, then enter 4 instead of 5 for cas and so on down for the first 3 values, then 12 instead of 15 for the 4th value. No need to go into the advanced memory timings section
