  • Gigabyte EP45-UD3R further tweakage advice

I recently installed the subject board and then realized my limited knowledge to oc was not going to be of benefit to properly get the full potentuial of this board. I have set my bios (F5) to the below settings but am still thinking I can get a lot more out of my cpu with this board. However, before I just dive in and start changing settings without really understanding, I was wanting some of you veterans to look over my settings and perhaps point me in the right direction.

Specifically I am confused about the ram settings, primarily the Advanced options. I think based on the below settings I am not running the ram at it's rated speed of 1066 despite manually setting the timings and voltage. Is that how the oc process is supposed to work?

Is it better to have a lower multiplier for the cpu and a higher fsb when oc'ing, or the opposite? What is the optimum speed for my 6600 that would be south of it's max without having to worry about stability and damaging the cpu or the board?

At the below settings I was of the assumption that I had oc'd the cpu from it's native 2.4 ghz to 3.0 ghz. But, and I expect some giggles on this but be gentle, this is all new to me, CPU-Z shows a setting at 3.0 mhz, 3D'06 shows the internal clock at 3.0 but then also says I am running at 3.86 mhz. I'm not sure what all that means or why the seemingly different readings.

The below settings successfully ran 5 passes with IntelBurnTest, at 100% load, the cpu temps were 60-65C. I'm thinking that is about as hot as I ever want the cpu to get under load, yes? My 3D'06 score is only 12,439. I'm not looking to necessarily be in the 20K+ club and realize my single 9800 GTX+ gpu is a factor as well, just throwing the score out there for comment. Thanks much in advance for any assistance and suggestions to tweak out some more performance.

Hmmm, first time newbie poster has encountered a problem. I had copy/pasted the template Lsdmeasap has set up but even if I try to post the template by it's self with no other text, it says I am over the 10k character limit. I expect there must be an easy way around this since others are using the template. Can somebody please advise so I can get the settings included with my post? Thanks.

Gettin a little discouraged ladies and gents. I know it has only been a few days but after 97 views and already bumped back to page 3, was hoping to get some input. Thanks. (ducks and hides )

Re: Gigabyte EP45-UD3R further tweakage advice

static tRead is aka PL(performance level) set it to the lowest you can get it to boot/work. Normally 7-8 but depends on the fsb and ram speed.

Then once you get that you can try the tRD phase adjustments, starting at channel A level 1 set to advance, see if it boots, then channel B.

Skip phase 1 as I hear its buggy, so try phase 2 channel A next.

On mine I cannot boot with any phase adjustment, meaning that PL of 8 is as good as it gets for me.

Re: Gigabyte EP45-UD3R further tweakage advice

Thanks for the reply Speed. I will try that but what I am more interested in at this point all of the ram settings. For instance, I am not clear regarding this setting,

          System Memory Multiplier ..............: 2D

Would one of the other setting choices better suit my system?

That plus the umpteen choices under Advanced Timing Control and the Channel A & B settings. In am also confused on the goal of reaching a ram setting ratio of 1:1 and how to make that happen with this board. Thanks.

Re: Gigabyte EP45-UD3R further tweakage advice

Gettin kinda silly replying to my own posts but I have made a few changes to the settings and would still appreciate some input. I have changed the following settings:

            Standard Timing Control
            CAS Latency Time........................ 5
            tRCD ......................................... 5
            tRP'........................................... 5
            tRAS.......................................... 15
            Advanced Timing Control
tRRD........................................... Set to default recommended value
tWTR.......................................... Set to default recommended value
tWR............................................ Set to default recommended value
tRFC........................................... Set to default recommended value
tRTP........................................... Set to default recommended value

I also lowered the cpu vcore to 1.325.

I am unsure how to get the memory to run in the 1:1 ratio I am reading about. I tried changing the System Memory Multiplier from 2D but other settings raised the memory well above 1066. At it's current setting the memory is running at 858 I think. I would like to see about getting the memory to run at least as close as possible to it's native of 1066.

I also made an attempt to run the cpu at 3.2 by first making the multiplier 8 and frequency 400 and also leaving multiplier at 7 and frequency to 457. In either attempt the system will not post, just loops back to bios. I upped the vcore to 1.35 but still no go. Maybe would have worked at a higher vcore but decided to leave well enough alone for the time being. Looking forward to some assistance on the ram settings and perhaps getting 3.2 stable. Thanks.

Re: Gigabyte EP45-UD3R further tweakage advice

the 2D and 2B dividers are both 1:1. It runs at 1:1 with the FSB. So 400FSB x2=800 so your mem will run at 800with 2D and 2B. The other dividers will run the mem higher, like 2.40B is 5:6(or mem runs at 1.2x FSB)
