  • newbie needs help on GA-MA78G-DS3H/DS3HP

This is going to be my first build. I will install AMD 5000+ 64/2 processor, and i am looking at the manual schematic
that shows 2 system fan , and 1 power fan headers.

my question is: are these all 120mm fans the same? Is there a difference between a pwr fan vs a system fan??

thank you for your help, anybody.

One of the fans (4pin) can be contoled by mobo bios. This is the only difference.

Depending on the motherboard, they're all essentially the same. The power fan is usually intended for a northbridge fan, but it works with anything. You'll either have a four or three pin header. The fourth pin is a speed control function, controlled from the BIOS. You can plug a 3 pin fan into a 4 pin header(though you won't be able to have the BIOS control the speed), you can plug a 4 pin fan into a 3 pin header (same deal). You just match the power and ground pins and ignore the speed/thermal control pin.
