  • GA-EP45-UD3P Dual boot lose network from XP to Vista

    Hello,
I am not sure if I crossed over to the dark or light side. :) I have been a long time 10+ year Asus fan. My friend had me switch over recently to Gigabyte. Specs follow.
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale
    3.0GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80570E8400 USING STOCK FAN

    Kingston 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Model KVR800D2K2/4GR

BFG Tech BFGE98512GTXOCE GeForce 9800 GTX 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

Western Digital VelociRaptor WD3000GLFS 300GB 10000 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

    SeaSonic S12 Energy Plus SS-550HT 550W ATX12V V2.3 / EPS12V V2.91 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply
    SABRENT CRW-UINB 68-in-1 USB 2.0 Internal Card Reader w/ USB 2.0 Port supports SDHC/VISTA
The issues I am experiencing with the GA-EP45-UD3P and Bios F6:
    1. I am running dual boot Vista 64 / XP Pro 32. I boot into XP all good. I REBOOT from XP into Vista 64 and for the life of me I can't get the network to work, either port 1 or 2. I uninstall drivers, reinstall, disable, re-enable, turn off ports in bios turn on, turn off wake on lan in XP and Vista, turned on wake on lan.
WORK AROUND - Ok I have a work around but what a pain in the @rss to do. When rebooting from XP into Vista 64 I unplug the power cable and immediately push the computer case power button to clear the power from the board. Lights flash and go off so there is no longer any power other than the cmos battery. I then turn on the box and the network port works. I am connected to the network. Is this a bios issue?

Side note: I can boot/reboot from Vista 64 all day long and have my network work. Also I can boot from Vista to XP and the network is all good.
    2. This might not be an issue with the board but I plugged in the card reader (SABRENT CRW-UINB 68-in-1 USB 2.0 Internal Card Reader) and they have a constant red light that is on even when the computer is powered down. Is there a setting in the Bios to turn off everything when I shut down the computer even the USB ports. I noticed that there is still a charge in the USB ports when the machine is off.
    3. Just a rant- C'mon motherboard manufacturers, make ALL fan connectors on the motherboard controllable by software. Tried speedfan with no luck. There is no reason to have my PC sound like an airport. I picked up Zalman ZM-MFC2 and am playing around with it for now. Watching temps closely.

Ok, no responses. How about this question:
    1. Does anyone else have a successful dual boot Vista/XP with board "GA-EP45-UD3P". When booting from XP into Vista using your onboard Realtek network adapter?

It is a pain to pull the plug and immediatly hit the power switch to clear the power and then boot into Vista. Ideally the way I have done it with other MOBOs is simply reboot.

Do I have a defective board?

Re: GA-EP45-UD3P Dual boot lose network from XP to Vista

Hey, I am having the exact same problem. I just got done building a computer with that mobo and worked fine until one night recently would not get the internet on the vista 64 bit but xp 32 bit would. I could not work the problem out for the life of me. It gets even more weird. When I use my linksys 300N router and connect the lan line from that, both work just fine. IF I connect form the cable modem to the board, it gets stuck at id'ing connection or limited connection. I also just built a new computer for my parents when I was at home, (same mobo) and it was working just fine. BUT after installing new vista updates (right after SP1), it no longer worked, but once again, XP is just fine. I will let you know what I can find out but I think it may have to do with an update through Vista...I want to try that work around u found out and see if it works for me too...I agree though, a pain to do each time

and real quick the basic specs...
      Quad core 9300
4 gb of 1066 kingston ram
      NVidia GT 260

Re: GA-EP45-UD3P Dual boot lose network from XP to Vista

Well, I rolled back the driver install on my parents computer and it still would not get back on to the internet, but it would connect a local network instead of the yellow warning flag. But just like it does when I am back at school at my apartment, I plugged in their Belkin N1 wireless router from the modem, and then a lan line into the card and bam, I am now back on the internet...Since I can get on the internet just fine in XP and now through the router in vista 64, it has to be a driver/vista problem...thats the best guess I have for now...I'll keep working on it though...you let me know if you figure anything out as well please!

Re: GA-EP45-UD3P Dual boot lose network from XP to Vista

On this site I found a bios F7c that I would like to flash and see if that fixes the issue. I am wating because I am in the middle of a project and don't want to trash my system if the flash goes bad. :)

In some respect it is good to know that someone else has the same issue which might eliminate a bad board and come down to either a bios or driver issue.

Did you try the work around: pull the plug and hit the power button then plug in and power up which you will have network access?

Re: GA-EP45-UD3P Dual boot lose network from XP to Vista

Hey I have an UD3P and just setup a dual boot XP pro 32 and Vista Home premium 64. I have no issues with network connections.

The only issue I had was in Vista automatic updates found a network driver and wanted to install it, well I let it and instantly no internet connection. I rolled back the driver and every thing is fine. i can boot between XP and Vista 64 w/o issues.

BTW I'm using the F7 official bios, not sure if that makes any diff, havent dual booted on any other bios.
            New Q9650, Gigabyte UD3P, 4GB OCZ Platinum, Asus TOP 4850, Antec TP3 550W, Vista 64 SP1/XP SP3.

Yes, that is what happened to my computers as well when I used the automatic updates. No, I did not try the unplug power button fix because I had to leave and didn't want to try it on my parents computer since it was working through the router and didnt have anymore time to work on it. I am going to be installing a new cpu fan and some other things tonight, and if it doesnt run too long in time, I will see about that fix you described...and I am using the official bios as well...I know it has dual bios so if ur flash goes bad, you should be ok...but wouldnt risk it if it is important stuff! ;) Actually, now that I look closer at your actually mobo, I have a different version. I am on the GA-EP45-UD3R...I guess I just read fast that you had the same problem and felt better it wasnt only me on two motherboards...

Yup, I installed a Windows optional update and lost my ethernet capability too. Reinstalled the driver from the install disk and got it back.

BTW, I am running a dual boot XP Pro and Vista Ultimate with no apparent problems.

I started with the F6 Bios and am now running F7.

In a nutshell, Vista has different network settings than XP and it causes compatibility issues with certain routers. This could be an issue, especially since flyinbyu20 mentioned it worked with a Belkin router, but not with the cable modem directly. (IMHO, you should NEVER, EVER hook up a computer without a router between you and the internet because that simple act eliminates 90% of the ways viruses and trojans get on your computer. The other 10%? It's up to you not to open viagra emails!) I'm sorry but I've forgotten the specifics. You'll probably be able to get the info on the Linksys site, sicne they include a CD that you run on your PC and it changes the Vista network settings to match XP settings, enabling the router to work.

It's not a high-percentage play, but if it works, who cares? :)

I'm about to go to sleep now, or I'd go fishing about the internet for your answer and not just be lazy and do a vague post like this (it's not my style). In any case, good luck to all!!!
