• EP45-UD3R & e7300 OC Help

Hello. I got my system a few weeks ago:

    Intel Core2 Duo e7300; Arctic Cooling 7 applied with Arctic silver 5; Gigabyte EP45-UD3R; Patriot Viper DDR2 800 2x2GB 2.1v 4-4-4-12; Antec TP2 550W ATX PSU; Seagate 7200.11 500GB; WD 80GB x2; and Samsung 22x dvd burner w/ lightscribe; MSI 8800GT 512 OC

My problem is I cannot seem to find any setting past 3.33ghz that is stable. At this setting I can run Prime95 & memtest for hours without a problem, but 3.4 or 3.5 or 3.6 all either BSOD while windows is loading or fail prime95 pretty quickly. I have done several voltage increases across the board and once again 3.33ghz is stable with the following settings:

I have tried very loose memory timings and even small clock increases seem to at the very least fail in Prime95 with "rounding errors." Also with voltage set to '1.32500V' in CPU-Z it says 1.296V idle and 1.280V load with same numbers in EasyTune6. I know there is vDroop but other posts seem to show a tiny number not 0.029V difference idle and 0.045V under load. Do I need a better PSU or...?

My goal is to be running around 3.6-3.8GHz stable and since I got all these components for OC'ing I am hoping to have my memory running at about 1000-1066mhz.

    Thanks!

    Re: EP45-UD3R & e7300 OC Help

Vdrop/vdroop varies from board to board, nothing to do with your PSU at all.

Please post me your full settings you are trying at the clock speed you want that fail and I will advise back

      Re: EP45-UD3R & e7300 OC Help

Unfortunately it seems like I need a big voltage increase in vcore & mch core just to get the extra 267MHz to ever make it into windows. At this it fails Prime95 on one core immediately. I got this gear in the hopes of 3.8-4.0GHz with my memory at 1066, but if I can't get 3.6 stable maybe I am just being unrealistic. My old machine was nforce4 AMD SLI socket 939 w/ X2 3800+ which allowed for a max of usually 150-200MHz so this is my first setup where I can attempt real OC. I have read this site and others about it, but still definately noob class OC'er.

        Re: EP45-UD3R & e7300 OC Help

just tried same with 1.38750V vcore and 1.300V MCH core and Prime95 lasted 2 seconds instead of 0. At that the vcore shows 1.360V at idle in CPU-Z and 1.328V under load. Intel lists 1.36250V as the "max" suggested for my e7300. I am not worried about going over that number since I did buy this for OC'ing, but I also am not looking to fry anything and I have no idea what the limits are.
