I just purchased this system after saving and collecting Christmas money. I opted out of buying a heatsink, monitor, and OS. Good news is the 64-bit Windows 7 Beta is out, and it is working very well. I was having problems on XP 32-bit, but that's off-topic. I'd like to OC using the stock Intel Heatsink and my goal is to achieve 3.0 ghz. I have some questions: What is HPET? I set it to 64-bit since I run on a 64-bit system but are they even related? Is my goal even reasonable? What voltage ballpark should I be looking at? What should I know about my cpu/memory divider?
What I've Done:
I've reduced the Vcore from 1.325V to 1.25V and it has been stable running Prime95 so far. I would like to try to lower the voltage further to determine a baseline to overclock off of, but I don't know how severe the repercussions would be if I lowered them too much. I have lowered my maximum core temps under full load on each core by 4-4-6-6 degrees C on each core respectively. Currently running at 56-56-50-51 degrees under full load. I've set the PCI clock sync to 100 MHz, but are there any other options I should take off of auto and set to a fixed quantity? Thanks.
