Do you have the drives in the correct spots for master/slave?

The master drive should go on the end of the cable, and the slave in the middle.

If you have them like that and have no luck try one or the other, then both on CS (Cable Select)

What settings do you have set in Integrated Peripherals >>>

    Integrated Peripherals

    SATA RAID/AHCI Mode (Intel ICH10R Southbridge) .............
SATA Port0-3 Native Mode ................................... Enabled (or Disabled, both will work)

Should be like this here for IDE drives on the IDE Cables >>>
Onboard SATA/IDE Device (GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip) ............. Enabled
Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode (GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip) ........... IDE

And how does it crash exactly?

Well it finally gets into the screen where u can choose to boot off the cd, but after it says windows is loading files...it gets stuck on a blank screen until i reset the system. the P35-DS4 is on latest BIOS revision[ F12].

Can you test your ram on your system or another one stick at a time >>>
Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

Did you try the above install with only one stick of ram or both?

Are you sure your install disk works good? When did you use it last?

Is this new IDE hard drive or old? And new o old CD/DVD drive? Can you test the install again with a older or different CD Drive?

Re: problem with IDE in P35-DS4

          thanks...it was ram errors.

for some reason wen i put in a specific combination of RAM i.e 2x512MB DDR2533 AND a 1GB DDR2667, it would cause lockups.

Ive noticed it happen whenever the MB runs under flex memory mode.

          Now it works fine.
