  • EP45-DS3L w/ Pentium D Please Help

Hello, i just purchased the EP45-DS3L and i have a Pentium D 940 Cpu. I would like to use this ram (Kingston KTD-DM8400A) These are 2x1GB sticks and all i know about them is that they are 1.8V. I could not find the timings online.

My system will post once and then cycle power on and off and is not stable at all. I have tried changing settings but it will not work properly. I have updated the Bios to F10.

Would someone please give me the list of settings i need to use because im tired of resetting the bios over and over again. I would like to get this working since RMA is a pain.

    Thanks in advance,
    Sam

I found your ram, just incase you wanted the link, but yeah no real info other then what you know already. They are 533Mhz/PC24200 Sticks though if you did not know that >>>
Kingston Technology Company - Kingston Memory Search - Search Results for: KTD-DM8400A/1G

PROVANTAGE: Kingston Technology KTD-DM8400A/1G 1GB Memory for Dell A0375066/A0375074/A0498618/A0498620

    Newegg.com - Kingston 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Unbuffered DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) System Specific Memory - System Specific Memory

Can you get into windows at all, if so please post me a screenshot of CPU-z SPD Tab so we can have a look to see if it has programmed timings or not.

As for now, you should put performance enhance in the BIOS on standard. The rest will have to wait until I see that info. Please do also fill this in with what you are using now then I will advise back >>>>

      Re: EP45-DS3L w/ Pentium D Please Help

Ran CPUZ on one of the sticks in a diff machine. Here are the results,

Also, it shows my CPU as 2.4Ghz, when it should be 3.2, i belive the multiplier is wrong or something? Why doesnt this board recognize this cpu correctly?

Here are the specs of the cpu, could you incorporate those into the config as well?

      Pentium D 940
      Clock: 3.2 GHz (Dual Core)
      L1: 16KB (Per Core)
      L2: 2048KB (Per Core)
      Multipiler: 16x
      Package: 775 Pinless
      Socket: 775
      organic mPGA
      Core: 65nm
      Vcore: 1.25-1.4V

      Thanks a lot,
      Sam

          Re: EP45-DS3L w/ Pentium D Please Help

Well the board should recognize your CPU Correctly if you HAVE loaded optimized defaults and save/apply/rebooted. Did you do that yet? If not, please do.

If you have, then your CPU is likely clocking down due to Intel SpeedStep. Not sure if that is in older CPU's like that, but sounds like it may be. You would need to disable EIST and C1E in the advanced BIOS page to turn that off

OK, here is what you should use as a optimal range for that setup >>>>

Do keep in mind this board was not designed to run such slow ram or CPU's so you may always have issues until you get a newer CPU at least and some faster ram.. When the board came out it strictly did not support these CPU's and were only added later By BIOS update due to consumer issues I believe. So that likely still means the hardware was not designed for the CPU and they are only Trying to get it to work with the older CPU's as much as they can. There is MANY Cheap 45Nm CPU's and even 65Nm ones as well, starting at about $50
