Re: EP45-UD3R-new build-unresponsive

So, windows asked you to run chkdsk or someone advised you of that?

Either way, incase windows asked, please do run it. But do it this way >>>
1. Windows Key + R
2. Type CMD
3. In the new Command window Type >>>
chkdsk /x /r
4. Accept messages presented and reboot.

Now the chkdsk will run, and it will take a long time and may look to be frozen but it is not leave it. This may take several hours depending on your disk size and data on the disk.

If you feel you just need help with settings, please link me to your ram and fill this in with what you are using now that is failing and I will advise back >>>

Do note that if it IS windows asking you to do a chkdsk it will continue to do that and run it at startup until you fully let it finish. There is ways around that, but if it is windows I would advise you run it as I showed above and let it finish

This is Just a template I use to ask people their settings, pay no attention to the numbers in it, replace with yours

Re: EP45-UD3R-new build-unresponsive

thanks for the response Lsdmeasap,

so, yes, windows is asking me to chkdsk. through your method, am i bypassing the auto-prompt to chkdsk and then running it once windows loads? is that correct? ie should i start windows normally, then run the chkdsk via the method you described?

here is a link to my ram. i have 2 of these kits for a total of 8gb.
2x Patriot Viper 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)

Newegg.com - Patriot Viper 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

as for the bios settings, everything is currently stock. since i am at work, i won't be able to provide that info till 9pm PST.

i appreciate the response and the help in the meantime.

Re: EP45-UD3R-new build-unresponsive

Yes, my method would be best. It will override the Auto-Prompt and manually set a scheduled chkdsk and it will be ran once you reboot before windows starts

Run the command I gave above as directed in windows and then click yes, and then yes again I believe it asks you two things (Not sure exactly what it says right now, but say yes to all) then reboot and it will run before windows starts

4GB often needs several changes, here would be optimal ranges for your setup at stock. but what you should do first until you get this chkdsk out of the way is shut down and remove one stick of ram so it will be more stable, put performance enhance on standard and set your ram voltage. Then save/apply/reboot and go into windows and run the command then reboot to let chkdsk run >>>

Re: EP45-UD3R-new build-unresponsive

thanks for the response. i've ran the chkdsk and it seems to be running okay at stock now.

i'll implement the suggested changes and see where i can get this thing.

one thing...i'm trying to run 8gb of ram.

any other suggestions???

thanks

Re: EP45-UD3R-new build-unresponsive

Nice to hear!

Ya, you would need a higher tRFC and possibly more MCH voltage for 8GB

If you run into issues post me your settings you are trying that fail and I will advise
