  • Freezing on boot

Hello, I built this computer 2 weeks ago and I've been experiencing some issues with actually getting an operating system installed properly. Windows Vista Ultimate 32 Bit was very slow during the installation and once successfully installed it would usually freeze on the loading bar whilst booting.

My last attempt was with Windows XP Home Edition SP3 32 and I was able to install it but it was still freezing on boot and no network was detected, so I reinstalled. This time I pressed F6 and installed the SCSI/RAID drivers of a floppy disk. The network worked and all that and it didn't freeze for the rest of the reboots that night. I played Left 4 Dead before I shut it off for the night.

The next day I turn it on, it is still freezing on the loading bar and sometimes it can get past that but the screen stays blank and nothing loads. The HDD activity LED does not emit any light once it has frozen so I'm asking myself if the hard drive would be the issue or perhaps the motherboard/RAM.

    Specs:
    E2200

    Gigabyte EP43-DS3L

    G.SKILL F2-8500CL5D-2GBPK PC2-8500

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 SATA 3.0Gb/s 500-GB Hard Drive

    SATA DVD Drive

    Please help.

    Thanks.

    Re: Freezing on boot

How much of it this ram do you have, just 2x1GB?

Sounds like it could be maybe bad ram or a bad drive. Did you test the ram one by one when you got it? If not you should at stock spec settings >>>
Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

Please give me what settings you are using in the BIOS >>>

This is Just a template I use to ask people their settings, pay no attention to the numbers in it, replace with yours

      Re: Freezing on boot

      Sorry I haven't replied.

I sent some emails to Gigabyte support. Currently I can't get past the Gigabyte screen and none of keys are responsive. I got into the BIOS once since clearing the CMOS a few times. I can't run memtest nor check the BIOS for M.I.T. settings. Most of it was default/auto/manual, memory voltage was 2.1.

EDIT: The memory kit is 2x1GB

        Re: Freezing on boot

So you cannot get into the BIOS at all? How about with only one stick of ram in slot one or two?
