  • GA-G31M-S2C PCI-E frequency

    Hello to the members of Tweaktown!

    I find it odd that with this motherboard, G31-S2C, raising the FSB requires me to raise the PCI-E frequency as well to POST. I have a E7200 processor + a 9600GT, and right now, I am running at 377Mhz FSB at 110Mhz PCI-E (and have no intent to go higher than 110). I can go above this, for example, 400Mhz FSB if I take the PCI-E to 118MHz, which is very overboard. Is there a way I can make this work with the frequency strapped to 100Mhz?

    PS. This doesn't happen when I used my old 2.8Ghz 800FSB Prescott (taken to 3.8GHz). The problem just started with overclocking my current processor.

    I would not even be using 110 if you have SATA Drives it may damage them. 108 is my safe limit, personally, but I have seen users who use 112 as a max.

    Sounds like from your comment about one cpu works with it at 100 but the other does not that you may have some incorrect settings or not enough volts maybe?

    I do know that is a budget board so asking alot of it is not going to take you to very far, but 400 FSB I would imagine should be obtainable.

    What BIOS are you using, and what settings are you trying that fail to load with 100-102 set? >>>

      Regarding my new CPU, my overclock is stability tested using OCCT for four hours maximum, if it was unstable, it would have stopped much earlier.

      I'm using the latest BIOS according to the Taiwan site, F4. It seems PCI-E frequency is very dependent on FSB. Above a certain FSB, the system won't POST. Thus, my overclocking methodology was raise FSB till it doesn't post due to PCI-E, raise the PCI-E by 1, and then repeat the process till I reach 110Mhz. I have 4Gb RAM at standard timings according to SPD, so nothing fancy about it. (5-5-5-15)

        Ya, looks like you have reached the boards limit, likely since you cannot adjust MCH Voltage.

        You did not add any of your ram timings so I could not comment if any of those are too tight causing you issues or not
