  • Overclocking Issues (GA-P35-S3G)

    First post, be gentle :-D

Having a bit of a problem with an overclock. I have been follwing the sticky guide above, as well as other guides related to the dual core duos. BIOs setting are listed below passes stress tests and stays pretty cool. Problem I have is the FSB, I can only raise it from 333 to 338 (raising the clock from 2.66 to 2.7Mhz). At 339 and anything above this the system will boot, make a beep then reset, restoring the bios back to the default 333. Even when I have the bios at the optimisied defaults the FSB will still not go above 339. Bit disappointed as its a pretty tiny increase in performance.

    Many thanks in advanced.

    Re: Overclocking Issues (GA-P35-S3G)

Put PCI Express Freq to 100

Then set your ram voltage to spec (Normally 2.0-2.1) And put MCH Voltage to +.2-.3 for 2x2GB

Please link your ram and I will help you with all settings tonight when I get back, you caught me on my way out the door

Ahh thanks very much, made the tweaks you've suggested. Ram if I remember right is Kingston KHX8500AD2K2/4G (datasheet:http://www.valueram.com/datasheets/KHX8500AD2K2_4G.pdf)

      Many thanks

        Re: Overclocking Issues (GA-P35-S3G)

Ok, Here is what you should be looking at setting as optimal Ranges. Not sure what you planned to clock to, but here would be a 3Ghz range. CPU Voltage and Vtt of course would have to be manually found and set by you.

You have tested this ram one by one at stock to be sure neither is faulty correct? if not, please do so now to save yourself a headache. Test with one stick in slot one, performance enhance on standard, main timings manually set to spec, ram voltage set to spec 2.0V, system Memory Multi set to 3.20 for 1066, all other settings on Auto including your CPU items with the CPU also at stock. Do this test for 5-10 full passes on each stick with Memtest86+ latest Version, older will not work (Linked below)

        Code:
Robust Graphics Booster___________ [Auto or fast]
        CPU Clock Ratio ____________ [8]
        Fine Clock Ratio ____________[0.0]
        CPU Host Clock Control_ [Enabled]
        CPU Host Frequency (MHz)__________ [375]
        [B]PCI Express Frequency (Mhz)_______ [100][/B]
        C.I.A. 2__________________________ [Disabled]
System Memory Multiplier (SPD)____ [2.66] = 1000Mhz, To get 1066 Exact when you are overclocking you will need either more FSB or less and a different Multi. Just not sure what you planned to run at. As for stock ram testing, 3.20 with CPU at 333 will be 1066 for sure

DRAM Timing Selectable_______ SPD __ [Manual]
        [B]
        Performance Enhance = [Standard][/B]

        CAS Latency Time________________ 6/7
        Dram RAS# to CAS# Delay_________6/7
        Dram RAS# Precharge Delay_______6/7
        Precharge Delay (tRAS)__________ 18/20

See note below at Ram Voltage, you may be able to use 666-18 above, maybe not

Set all below to the highest suggested value, then later lower one at a time testing with memtest86+ as you go >>
        http://www.memtest.org/#downiso

ACT to ACT Delay (tRRD)_________ 3-4
Rank Write to READ Delay________ 3-6
        Write to Precharge Delay_________ 4-6
        [B]Refresh to ACT Delay______________ 52-65[/B]
        Read to Precharge Delay__________ 3-5
        Static tRead Value_______________ 7-12
Static tRead Phase Adjust________ [Auto] << Always Auto

        System Voltage Control____ [Manual]
DDR2 OverVoltage Control__ [+0.200V] = 2.0V << your ram is rated for 777-20 at 1.8-2.0v @ 1066Mhz, so if you use 2.0V you may be able to run 666-18 at 1066 with 2.0V instead of 777-20. If you have issues and cant seem to get around them set your timings to 777-20 as this is cheap ram and may or may not do what I suggested

        PCI-E OverVoltage Control_ [+0.1V]
FSB OverVoltage Control___ [+0.1V -0.2V] << +0.1 should be good
        [B](G)MCH OverVoltage Control [+0.2V - 0.3V] [/B]<< Needed for 2x2GB
CPU Voltage Control_______ [1.25-1.35] << all up to your CPU, just set high enough you know you can boot then you can lower later. And what you set in the BIOS may not be what you get in windows. Check by manually setting a voltage at stock CPU speeds then go in windows and look with CPU-z what voltage is shown. Keep that difference in mind and set your BIOS accordingly to what you want to get as actual. The difference will vary at different voltage settings as well, just a FYI

          Re: Overclocking Issues (GA-P35-S3G)

Many thanks. Had a quick try of the settings you listed, but still no luck. Shall run memory tests this weekend when I can leave it running for long enough.

Ahh, Ok! Well if you do not get anywhere, please post the exact setting you tried and tell me how it fails and I will advise back
