  • Need help with my build

    Hi everyone,

I'm new here, and I'd be most appreciative if I could get some help with my new setup.
    Intel Q9550
    GA-EP45-UD3P motherboard bios is F6
    Corsair TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF 2x2GB DDR2 currently in slots 1 + 3
WD10EACS 1TB SATA hard drive in the ICH10R SATA2_0 slot
    Zalman CNPS9700 LED cooler
    Enermax Galaxy 1000W PSU
ATI HD4850 graphics in the PCI-E 16X slot
    --> I don't have a case, it's totally open system.....on stands, etc...

I'm totally new with building computers so the BIOS is like a blank page to me. Could any experts here be able to help me with a most stable setup at stock settings? I don't mind if the RAM is underclocked for best stability.

    Thanks & Happy New Year.

WOW, open system and new to overclocking! Why that choice? Or do you just not have your case yet?

Anyhow, Happy New year, and sorry for getting to your thread so late! I am a bit behind due to the Holidays...

Re: Need help with my build

      Hi Lsdmeasap,

Thanks for your reply & help. I'm going to try out those settings you just posted. I'm still looking for a case actually, but I'm grateful for what I have now.

For the CPU Vcore, I can just leave that at auto right? It says that auto follows the Intel stock settings, which is what I think is the right way to go? CPU PLL's value is set to 1.500 V auto, should I manually set that to 1.500 as well?

By the way, would you think underclocking the RAM down to 800 would be best for stability? I heard that for my particular RAM, it would be a good idea. What settings would fit best? I hope Windows and other programs will be able to detect the 2x2GB RAM. Right now, I'm just wishing for the most stability...haha.

      Happy New Year.

Re: Need help with my build

Ahh, just wondered about why no case!

Ya, you can use Auto voltages but I ONLY suggest using that AT STOCK, if you overclock at all I suggest you find and set your own Vcore, Termination, and PLL

No, you can run your ram at 1066 without issues for sure, no need to underclock it at all

Re: Need help with my build

          Hi,

I tried the settings you posted for me the other day, but was having some problems though. I'm not sure if it's my memory among other things because sometimes when it boots to Windows, it will give me blue screens of death. Is this a stability problem?

After I randomly changed some settings, as you'll find below, most programs in Windows seem to be stable for now (Office, IE). Oh, I just found out about CPU-Z and just checked my system info. Looking at the memory tab, I could only see 3...MB and nothing else. If I recall, it should show the manufacture, frequency, etc...right? Maybe something's wrong?

As for the case, I'm still looking for a decent, not too expensive one. Do you have any good suggestions for a good case with great air cooling? I prefer the power supply on the top.

These are my current settings, and don't seem to have any problems so far. Should I change anything? I'm totally lost, since I'm just beginning to learn how to build a computer and setting up the BIOS.... I'll learn about overclocking, but I'm happy with stock settings...haha. I think stability, less chance of shorting/overheating, cooling is my major concern.

Should I post the other settings too, like Advanced BIOS....Integrated Peripherals...?

          Really appreciate your help, thanks!

Re: Need help with my build

Ya BSOD just means likely voltage or something else was off in your settings if you do not get them at stock settings.

I am not sure what you meant about CPU-z as you cut off your thoughts short at "3...MB" so I am not sure what you meant there????

But yes, in the SPD Tab you should see a set of tables and the manufacturer info. In the Memory tab you should see the speed and timings in use at that moment. Should look similar to this for both tabs >>>

Not sure about case suggestions? I think RaidMax Smildon is a good case but best to just look thru them all yourself and find one with looks you like and that has features you need and room for your hardware.

Na MIT is all that is relevant right now. You can make these changes if you like >>>

            Code:

Re: Need help with my build

              Hi,

Thanks for the fast reply. As for the info on the memory tab from CPU-Z, I could only see about 3GB in version 1.42 of CPU-Z. I know that's not a problem because I am not using the 64bit OS. I downloaded a newer version of CPU-Z and the info displayed like in your example, but in the memory it shows 4GB instead of the 3GB...is that normal?. I could actually see the manufacture, etc now. Actually I'm not really sure what I'm looking at in the SPD tab, especially the timing tables.

For the case, I was planning to buy a CoolerMaster Stacker 832. I heard that it has great air cooling capabilities. It's just a matter of how to connect fans together in cable management....which I have no experience with. It's also an expensive case.

As for the BIOS, could you please check if this will be great stability for my stock settings?

Re: Need help with my build

Ya in 32bit system you will only be able to use 2.75-3.25 or so GB ram depending on your Graphics card. Some programs will still pickup the installed amount but it will not be available to your system is all

That all should be good at stock
