  • Can Crucial Ballistix 2 x 1GB & Corsair Dominator 2 x 2 GB (Both PC2-8500) coexist ?

    Hi,

I have the EP45-UD3R Rev. 1.1 board with the F3 BIOS. Plus the Intel E7300 running stock (no O/C) per LSDMEASAP's recommended settings on M.I.T.

Currently I have the Ballistics 2 x 1GB installed and the system is running fine as it should, I think......

Well, I purchased the Corsair Dominator 2GB kit (2 x 1GB) from Zipzoomfly.com and tried to install them in remaining memory slots. With the addition of 2 more GB, nothing appears on the screen, no POST beep either.

This is how I inserted the memory when nothing appeared on the monitor, no beep, no post.

Slot #1 (yellow) -- Crucial Ballistic 1 GB stick
Slot #2 (red) ----- Corsair Dominator 1GB stick
Slot #3 (Yellow) -- Crucial Ballistic 1 GB stick
Slot #4 (red) ----- Corsair Dominator 1GB stick

Then I reversed the order as follows:

Slot #1 (yellow) -- Corsair Dominator 1GB stick
Slot #2 (red) ----- Crucial Ballistic 1 GB stick
Slot #3 (Yellow) -- Corsair Dominator 1GB stick
Slot #4 (red) ----- Crucial Ballistic 1 GB stick

This time, it boots up with a single BEEP and POST followed..... But in the post, it only showed: 1853xxxxxx...... showing only 1.8 GB. What gives?

By the way, I did not touch the DRAM voltage setting. It remained at 2.0 volt despite the Corsair sticks rated at 2.1 volt.

This is pretty much how I left the M.I.T. section, not much tweaking....

What can I do to the M.I.T. section to get all 4 GB memory recognized???

    Thank you in advance....

Well first of all you would need to set MCH Voltage to 1.2 and set your ram voltage to 2.1 or so for 4GB, but...

The way you noted out your tries at this it sounds to me like you may have a bad slot or a dead stick/sticks of ram. Can you test each stick one by one, once you are sure each stick is good test each slot one by one with a known working good stick. I do not mean memtest here so much as just general testing to see if each stick will boot up and then each slot functions properly

But in general NO those likely wont work together at all, and if they do "Function" you will likely never get them stable. Best to never mix ram brands, even ram models from the same brand can often not work together

Thanks for the Reply LSDMEASAP. Sorry to hear the tainted Illinois governor picked someone else for the ol' Obama seat in senate. I surely was pushing for ya through alll my government contacts..... :)

Anyway, I tested all 4 sticks of memory one by one in the 1st slot and all worked fine individually. Now I did not tried all the combos (slot2, slot3, slot4) with all individual sticks, but since I got all of the single sticks to boot up from slot #1, I assumed they were OK.

As for the MCH voltage setting to 1.2v and setting the RAM voltage to 2.1, I do not fully understand what they are or do, but I will give it a try.

I am somewhat disappointed to hear that the Crucial & Corsair brands will not "happily" coexist in the same motherboard as I am not overclocking or supercharging anything at this time.

By the way, what does LSDMEASAP stand for? I got the ASAP part (I think), but what does the remaining LSDME stand for?

LSD is another acronym, me is a pronoun. Groovy?

I think they are trying to not allow him to take the seat.... In my behalf! So maybe your hard work will pay off in the end

K, Sounds like you are sure all four sticks are good. What you did not then do which you should have was run a few shorter tests with one good stick (Guess that would be any of the four) in each slot, to be sure all 4 slots work properly.

Ya, you just cannot mix brands, often not even sticks of the same brand will work together.

For memory to run best, smoothest, and most stable you should always buy Matched sets of the same brand, type, and timings. And try to buy them all at once as often times whether noted or not some models even though spec'd the same will indeed be made with different chips making them incompatible with the "Same" sets if you buy them several months apart or more
