  • Mushkin 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop

So my Mushkin Ram is coming in tmr.

The settings on my current DDR2 667 are as follows

    Performance Enhance = [Standard]

    CAS Latency Time________________ 4
    Dram RAS# to CAS# Delay_________ 4
    Dram RAS# Precharge Delay_______ 4
    Precharge Delay (tRAS)__________ 12

    ACT to ACT Delay (tRRD)_________4
    Rank Write to READ Delay________6
    Write to Precharge Delay________6
    Refresh to ACT Delay____________42
    Read to Precharge Delay_________6
    Static tRead Value______________10
    Static tRead Phase Adjust_______Auto

Will I need to change anything? Do I set everything to Auto then pop the new ram in then manually configure it?

How do I go about swapping the memory. Will it work with these current settings?

    Thanks in advance.

Just a recommendation ... I always get timing recos from Greg, the Mushkin tech over on the Mushkin support forum (under "Tech Issues"). He is always very fast to get back to you (almost always the same day). Just tell him the board and memory you have.

What Kit did you get, model # or link? Ya, sad to see Greg Go!!!

You will likely find it easiest no matter the kit you bought to remove your ram you are using now and startup with just one of your new sticks then set your voltages and then save and shut down and put in the other stick

As for timings, no those will not work. Mainly your trfc will need to be 48(52-62) as for the rest that all depends on which set you bought

So I put the RAM in. It's running @ 390mhz @ 4-4-4-12. The advanced timings are on auto as I don't know what to put there. I'm hoping LSD can assist.

I tried overclocking the chip to 4GHZ (400x10). The ram frequency jumped up to 400mhz as well but the PC will not boot..

It seems that this chip cannot go over 390fsb.. Or am I doing something wrong?

              Please advise.

              Thanks in advance.

Just want to agree with everyone that it's a bummer that Greg left. Most responsive mfgr. tech I've ever seen.

I tried those settings but nada...

I even pushed voltage to 1.5 and dsb +mch volt to +.3 each... I don't know..

Maybe the cpu just reached its limit ... >_< ?

I'll continue tweaking the ram though.. sigh..

                    thanks!

What exactly did you set? Sorry, I may have gave you to tight of initial timings not knowing how good of a tweaker you are

This should for sure work for you, then work your way down to the lower settings above with 444-12 and then the rest starting with tRD (Static tRead Value) >>>

With this tweaked ram timings the machine is stable..

From what I am reading online the e5200's cant hit 400FSB.. As a matter of fact, most people stop around 320..

Sure, I can probably go 320 x 12.5 = 4GHZ.. But higher FSB is better

I guess I'm going to have to be content with the settings above. One thing that's bothering me though is my RAM frequency. At 760mhz, I feel like I'm cheating my self. The final question is this..

SPD to 2.40 and cut back on the timings? Or am I fine where I am?

                        Thanks.

Did you try raising your PCI-E Freq and try 400 FSB any harder?

I would maybe benchmark a few setups like you suggest with faster ram, higher/lower FSB, Higher/lower CPU Freq and find a happy medium

Then........ Sell your old ram and maybe something else and start saving for a E8400

Those timings even at that speed are likely very good, if you wanted to run 2.40 with 380 FSB you would have to use looser timings and even though faster it may not be better. So that is why really the only way to know would be to benchmark a few different profiles and see which is best.

F11 on the MAIN page in the BIOS is save, F12 is load. I think you can store up to 8 profiles, not sure the # on your board but for sure some

I just bought this chip, I have no intentions of upgrading anytime soon. If I need to change anything in my computer it will be my hard drive.

Increasing my PCI-E frequency will give me a higher clock fsb? :S

                            Never heard of that one..

                              Ahh, ok!

Ya, sometimes increasing PCI-E allows you to clock the FSB higher. Just be careful, after 105 or so is not good. 100-110 is my max I use, normally 100-102 is fine for about anyone and if 102 does not allow you to push the FSB higher it is not likely that 105+ will either. I was just tossing you a tip to try out
