  • EP-45-DS3R + E6850 + 4x1GB PC6400 overclock

    Hi,

I just upgraded my BIOS and unfortunately lost my saved O/C settings. I need some assistance in getting back to 4 Ghz. Currently I seem to be stuck at 3.6 Ghz stable, and I'm not too sure what to look at next.

Here are my relevant system specs:
    Gigabyte EP-45-DS3R (F10 bios)
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6850
    4x1GB Corsair CM2X1024-6400C4 (400Mhz, 2.1v, 4-4-12, pdf link)
    750GB WD Caviar SE-16
    Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme + Scythe S-Flex
    Corsair CMPSU-520HX

    And current BIOS settings:

Let me know if you need anything else.

    Thanks!

      Thanks for the super-prompt reply!

Link to memory PDF is http://www.corsair.com/_datasheets/T...048-6400C4.pdf

I used to run 4.0 Ghz stable (checked w/ OCCT). Just trying to get back there :)

For cooling, I have a Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme + Scythe S-Flex... basically this set up: AnandTech: Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme: Is More Better? and AnandTech: UPDATE: Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme - Retail

        Re: EP-45-DS3R + E6850 + 4x1GB PC6400 overclock

I am unable to get past 410 Mhz even with the new settings. I can log into Windows just fine, and it *seems* to run OK, but I can only do 1-5 seconds of OCCT before it crashes with a code 1 or code 4. Last measured temperature is 52 C, so I don't think the CPU is overheating yet.

        Here are my new settings:

See if this helps for now >>>

That is just too many Auto's you are using for sure! These will be loose to get you going, then you can lower once you get your CPU where you want it

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed. I'm finally making some progress, thanks to you.

              Re: EP-45-DS3R + E6850 + 4x1GB PC6400 overclock

Looking good, ya you can always lower your voltages and tighten timings after you get where you want to go! Best to keep voltage higher and timings loose so you can push things until you get where you want. Then spend a day or few tightening up things and testing/lower voltages.

Good luck, and I will see ya later today or tonight!

                Re: EP-45-DS3R + E6850 + 4x1GB PC6400 overclock

Hmm, crashes after 5 seconds at 3780 Mhz (420Mhz bus)... I wonder if I need to up my RAM voltage, 2.1v is what they recommend for non-overclocked speeds. I don't want to up vcore much more since I'm already at 45 C idle, and 65 C under full load.

Thanks again. I'm going to stay on this BIOS version and keep the CPU at 3.7 Ghz for now. I can get it up higher, but only with higher vcore and an open case, so definitely not ideal :)

So now I'm going back down the other direction... Is there a preferred order in which to tighten up those settings?

I would tighten Static tRD first then the rest from top to bottom

                        Please link to your ram.

That CPU may not even do 4Ghz under water. For sure not likely to do much above 3.6-3.8 with your cooler. Where are you running at now?
