    Now that I anticipate hooking up the board on FRIDAY, I would like to ask you for some BIOS settings that would work for me W/O overclocking for now. I want to abe able to get this running at the MOST Optimum settings BEFORE the O/C applications. Once my son gets his two hands on the computer for a while and stops complaining of no PC in a bout a month, then I may take up on some challenges.

    These will be my settings:

    The Board is: GA-EP45-UD3R<o:p></o:p>
    Processor: Intel Boxed E7300<o:p></o:p>
    Memory: 2 sticks of 1 GB each <o:p></o:p>

    Note: I have not decided which ones to return yet. But most definitely I will be returning one set of sticks for refund as I need to use the refund to get something else .

    Which one is better and which one should I return? Also can you shed some of your PC wisdom and recommend the optimum BIOS settings for both DIMMs ????

    I would say keep the Crucial's only for this reason, I am testing some similar 6400 New 2.0v sticks from Crucial right now and they have a 1000Mhz EPP Profile and will do 1200+ >>>

    EPP 800/1000 @ 2.0V


    This was done at 2.18V, but I have since ran them at that with 2.1V, and this was with no real tweaking done someone just asked me a while ago if they would do 1200 or not. This is with 4x1GB installed as well



    Now those OCZ may be just as good, but I dont know from personal experience so Couldn't really say. I am impressed with the new 2.0V 6400 Crucial's though and I would assume those 8500 sticks are the same ones as the 6400 just tested more to be sure they will do the 1066. I bet the EPP looks the same in your 8500's as the 6400 imaged above... Well maybe 1066 instead of 1000, but still you can see how the 6400's do at least in my testing

      Thank you for remembering your offer and following up on the BIOS settings for the GA-EP45-UD3R + Dual Core E7300 CPU.

      Yes, for now I would like to stay the "default" speed and not jeopardize with any tweaking as I am liable to crash something or mess up the BIOS (again - my son accused me of doing this).

      The UPS will be delivering tonight, and I will be setting it up, with your recommended default settings and report back.

      I am assuming that I need to go to BIOS and set it to "Optimum Default settings" before I set the parameters you have suggested, right?

      Also, I ain't fooling with the BIOS flashing. I think I learned my lesson. I will leave it for the "professionals.... ha ha ha "

      Again, thank you very much for all you do for poor soul like me. I bet you saved countless hours and frustration for many users... I woule like to nominate you to take over the "OBAMA's Senate Seat" from Illinois. You do not need to come up with $150k. THose countless hours you dedicated in helping out people, you EARNED it !!

        Dont let him blame you, it could happen to him as well!

        Yes, load optimized defaults and set your ram voltage then save and apply and reboot back to the BIOS to set everything else. That includes your SATA/Disk settings as well.

        That is soooooooo funny! We laughed for a good five minutes here about your Senate seat comment! Thanks for the laugh for sure!

          Hi Lsdmeasap,

          Finally hooked up all wires and what not. Started out very carefully. Noticed that my Rev 1.1 board did have the same F3 BIOS. Only thing I noticed that were different (physically) on Rev 1.1 was the type of heat sink used. No biggie...

          Also followed all your instructions. This including setting the RAM voltage to 2.0 and saving, exiting and rebooting. Oh yes, I first loaded the Optimum Default settings then set the RAM voltage on the subsequent boot up.

          I wanted to enable AHCI on both Intel Chipset and Gigabyte's GSATA chipset and turned all feaures to AHCI. I am not doing the RAID. And rebooted with the follwing:

          1 stick of Crucial 1 GB ram
          1 SATA hard drive connected to SATA_2_0 -- By the way this hard drive is not even initialized yet as I just took it out of box.
          1 IDE CD/DVD burner set as a master and connected to the legacy IDE connector.

          I am getting the BSoD after attempting to install the WinXP 32bit Pro. I hit F6 to install both the Intel & Gigabyte AHCI drivers after the WinXP goes thru the initial scanning. But after I load up the drivers via "A" drive, the screen goes like the below. I attempted to install also with all AHCI feature turned off and it did not matter. Both time I get the BSoD.

          What am I doing wrong?

            Please post a pic of the new heatsink, I'd like to see.

            Well you only need to install one AHCI driver with your OS, put your hard drive into the first/0 yellow port (Intel) and use that driver to install with. Also be sure your Drive is moved to the top of the Hard Disk Boot Priority inner list in the advanced BIOS page.

            Please do note the GSATA2/purple does not need to be on AHCI in the BIOS, and should not be if you are only using the IDE functions of the controller for your DVD Drive. The settings per that controller are the ones towards the bottom of Integrated peripherals page. They should be Enabled, and IDE >>>

            Onboard SATA/IDE Device (GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip) ............. Enabled
            Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode (GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip) ........... IDE


            At the top for the Intel Controller you should have >>>

            SATA RAID/AHCI Mode (Intel ICH10R Southbridge) ............. AHCI
            SATA Port0-3 Native Mode ................................... Enabled (or Disabled, both will work)


            That error, as you can see is a PCI error, what if any PCI Cards do you have installed? Remove them for now and see if it works.

            What hard drive do you have? Did you remove the jumper if it has one on the back, of not do so. I ask what type because some drives do need to be setup for initial use (Made Primary and set active) with the manufacturer tools.
