Hey I have been looking around, this is my 1st Intel rig comming from old AMD socket 939 on a DFI board. I have been learning about the different terms like Vtt/PL, ect..

    I have a UD3P, E8400(E0), 2x2GB OCZ 1066 platinum

I can do 3.6Ghz on low volts, but anytime I try and go higher it wont boot. I lower the multi and keep the memory at 1066 or I even tried 800 and it still wont boot. Its very strange, I tried giving more volts to everything and still nothing, so I have just been lowering volts on everything @3.6Ghz to see what my minimums are, lol.

The other thing that is crazy is when I look for Static tRead sometimes it will be 8, sometimes 6 sometimes 10, this is all with the same 400FSB, wth?? I have it manually set to 8 but have used memset to do 7

Performance enhance will change your static Tread setting, aside from that what you see in the BIOS may differ at many times and wont be used in windows always if you use Auto for that. So manually set it always and you should be fine

How high are you wanting to go?

May need to Disable Legacy USB Storage Detect perhaps?

OK on that performance enhance, it always defaults to turbo so thats why i see different things sometimes.

I just passed Prime blend for 8+hrs on the above settings that I posted @3.6(F7a bios), just to get a reference point. I think I can go a little lower on a couple voltages but just wanted a starting point for reference.

I'm looking to go to 4Ghz+, but I was having trouble getting 3.83 even. I'll give it another try in a sec. Like what would be the major things I would need to change if running 500 FSB, like to run 500x8. I just give more to the MCH and cpu/vtt/pll

Why do you say that? The only reason I know its on is b/c I checked as I just flashed it to F7a bios

I've seen it recommended in other post on OCing, by Lsdmeasap, I think. He seems to know his stuff, so I assume it can help.

            Re: Ud3p + e8400

OK the main thing that confuses/frustrates me is coming from the old AMD rig, if the memory is set for a certain speed then if you play w/ multipliers as long as you keep it at/near the same speed the settings will be close. On this board I keep the mem at 1066 but use a different multi and higher fsb and it wont get to windows, I guess I can understand the PL level.

I just tried everything to get 444x8 and it hosed my windows, lol. It made it in a couple times but never more than a minute or 2, reduced to 440x8 just to see and nothing either

This is the loosest setting I tried w/ no luck, 1st was 444x8 then 440x8 just to see.

You need to use the D strap after 400 FSB and likely more vcore as that 1.25 may be less then 1.00 even

Try 401 FSB again with 9 CPU multi and 2.66D for now with more Vcore and see how you get along. That should be 3.6 with your ram at 1066.

You are just not going to find stability on that B strap unless you stay under 400 FSb

                Re: Ud3p + e8400

I just turned back on the LLC. Now I have 1.216 in windows idle and load. W/o LLC I got 1.20 and load of 1.186 or something.

I also have done some extensive testing and found that so far, only switching from the 2.000D to the 2.00B on good settings causes a no boot so I have been sticking to 2.00D. I also have been just sticking with 1:1 memory.

I have found that the MCH reff is the most important setting as well as "Cpu Clock drive". I changed the clock skew from 800mv(default setting) to 900 or 700 on good settings and it would not boot at all.

The MCH ref for me is the most important setting, after finding that which whatever it takes to get a ".700v" in ET6. The thing is that the value changes w/ Cpu termination, so leave that and set the MCH ref to ".700v", then if you change the Cpu termination it will change this value but will still be in the correct ratio which will allways show as .70v in ET6.

All of the other reff values are fine on auto for me, I changed many of them even the Dram reff ones, but till I try to tweak my ram further I'll leave those.Heres my main settings.

So far I primed it at 464x9 for 2hrs same basic settings just more vcore. But went back to see what I could run at near stock voltages. So far with LLC off 410x9 is the best I can do on 1.25v. W/ LLC on I'm working on 422x9.

                  Re: Ud3p + e8400

Ya, over 400 FSB makes using B strap very unstable

Set your driving strengths that may help, as well as you for sure need to add some Vtt to get 4Ghz, I use 1.32-1.34 for 4Ghz

And yes, Vtt and All ref's are tied together so you have to set Vtt first, then adjust your ref's

                    Re: Ud3p + e8400

Now stable @ 424x9 3816, still on stock Vcore

All I changed was CPU termination(VTT) to 1.22, MCH to 1.32, MCH Ref to .66(when CPU term is 1.2, or what ET6 shows)

ET6 will always show you MCH ref and CPU ref assuming that CPU term is 1.2. So if you like for me If I set CPU term(VTT) to 1.2 and CPU ref to .76 and MCH ref to .66, then change CPU term(VTT) to 1.22, the ref numbers will raise slightly, but ET6 will still report them the same. I try to think of it as a divider/strap/multiplier as its locked at that ratio but it still changes when you change CPU termination(VTT). Basically ET6 will show .76 cpu ref no matter what VTT if its set on auto.

Also from what I have read its best to have CPU termination set just below the Vcore. So for me going to 1.22 added a little stability. When using more Vcore then you should raise the VTT higher.

People were saying on another forum that with high FSB the "B" strap may be more stable. Since I'm so close to 400 FSB, the "B" strap is not stable at all and wont boot, lol. I think its only when you get to 500FSB or higher that you can try the "B" strap again and it may be more stable.

As of now I have turned to adjusting the Clock Skew as I think I have the other settings pretty dialed in for now. I know that 500ps is too much as it wont boot. I'm priming 300ps now as 200ps seemed to work well.

This is with 9x428 3852, still stock Vcore!

Ya, I knew it would change with Vtt for sure, but I always wondered why EasyTune always showed the same no matter what. I think it always shows the same for me, manually set ref's or auto it is always the same

Ya, I have not got B strap to work well at 450 FSB, I can boot it but not very stable at all

That is very good for stock vcore!

                        Re: Ud3p + e8400

Since I think that my max on stock Vcore is 428x9 3852, I decided to try some higher voltages.

So far I was working on 470x9 4230 on 1.3625 in bios which is 1.316 or 1.326?? in windows. Anyway thats as far as it seemed to go. I tried a couple things and it didnt matter. I started with all the other settings I had, just raised the Vcore to 1.3625v and MCH to 1.4v. Messing w/ VTT/PLL ect.. didnt gain me anything.

I plan to run it on stock voltage/normal in bios as other than that the low power state doesnt work and its plenty for me. The reason I built this was to save power, have a faster setup, more ram and try Vista 64bit. So I am very happy with 3.8Ghz for everyday that throttles down to 2550 @.9v in windows as I am running 425x9 as my 24/7 settings. On my old AMD Opteron setup I used "RMclock" to have [email protected] at idle and it ramped up to [email protected].

This new rig also runs much cooler, I just wish BIOS or "Smart Fan" would let me shut off the CPU fan at idle as thats how I ran my old setup. RIght Now I removed an 80mm fan that I used to run and have both 120mm fans on the low power fan connectors from the Antec PSU, idle is 25 deg C with the CPU fan as low as it will run ~800rpm. The only thing I hear is the hard drives and this stupid beeping from the board running on low power.

Since I am most concerned with the lower power states, I'm currently priming the 2552 @ 1.072v in windows to make sure its stable(this is what I get w/ DES/C1E/C2E/C4E/EIST enabled at 6x425). So far with the CPU fan still set to as low as it can go the highest temp I hit priming is 31C, lol. I have also tightened up my mem timings as far or close to what I think I can. I wish I had some different ram w/ tighter 800mhz timings and 1.8v rating, lol, but for the price I'm happy for 4GB.

Stock/Auto Vtt and PLL will KILL your CPU if you are overclocked, you HAVE to manually set these for sure

Beeping? What is that? Sorry I dont have a UD3 board is there some new function/annoyance?

I dont have them on auto, just at the voltage that they are supposed to be. Then "normal" for Vcore wich is just the default 1.25v. Yes "Auto" will overvolt things a lot

I'm calling right now to see whats going on with this DES noise.

EDIT: I just switched back to the F5 bios and the noise went away. It seems that with the F5 bios DES only goes down to 1.07v at idle using 2Phases of power when OC'ing. When stock clocks it will have 3 small green boxes that say 1,2,3 if you click 3 then it will drop the Vcore down to .9v and still keep 2phases of power on, but any OC and those boxes disappear and it will only go down to 1.07v. With the F7a I was using it went down to .9v and used 1 phase of power on the board with OC'ing and still the 3 boxes are gone. It seems that was too much for just 1 phase as it was screaming at me. I'm going to try F4 and F6a to see how those react as it would be nice to have 2phases of power and still get the Vcore down to .9v

The difference in DES's display "CPU power" was at ~1.5watts idle w/ F7a and its ~4.5watts w/ F5

this is a newbie question but im having a hell of a time.

I have the exact same setup as you (UD3P+E8400+2X2GB OCZ Plat) but i can't even get the memory to run in dual channel, it won't post. I've been reading around the boards a couple hours but still pretty lost, any advice? not really trying to OC seeing as i only have a loner 7800GT for the time being so i just want to get this thing running. thanks for any input.

BTW: i haven't played with any of the settings so everything is still set to auto.
