  • EP45-UD3P won't boot an OS

First thing that happened, it wouldn't post so I found out I couldn't put the Gskill 1066 2x1gb in dual channel. Then when I put them in slots 1 & 2 it would start loading XP then flash a blue screen for a fraction of a second then reset.

I tried all kinds of different bios settings I read about here and on the Gskill board, nothing changed. So I went out and bought Corsair Dominator 1066 2x1gb and they did the exact same thing, even the dual channel not working is the same. I updated the bios via floppy and that didn't change anything either.

I tried my Ubuntu Linux Desktop CD, wouldn't boot. I even tried booting BartPE.
I did try 1 stick only, also tried different slots.

Do I just have a bad board and should exchange it or try a different one? I'm using an Antec Neopwer 650 Blue, Powercolor 4870 1gig, and a Q6600 w/ Freezer Pro 7.

Just to be clear, all it does it start loading XP then flash a blue-screen for about a eighth of a second then reset the computer. It does the same thing with Gskill and Corsair memory, and I've tried lots of bios settings. Maybe there's something I'm missing?

Hvae you tried one stick of ram? Can you get into the BIOS? Sounds like you can.

Re: EP45-UD3P won't boot an OS

I tried one stick, didn't make a difference. Yes I got into the bios after not using dual channel, tried tons of bios settings mentioned here and on the Gskill board.

Do all motherboard have as much problems as Gigabytes? I just wanted to build a system, but it seems I picked the wrong one. If I would have known it was this much trouble just to get it to work I wouldn't have bothered.

Re: EP45-UD3P won't boot an OS

Use one stick to get in the BIOS and then change Performance Enhance to Standard, set ram on Manual settings and change static Tread for both channels to 10 for now, set MCH Voltage to 1.28 for now (For both sticks in Dual channel) and set your ram voltages (Normally 2.0-2.1) and you should be able to shut down and insert the other stick and be fine.

If not you may have a faulty board. You can also try Loading Optimized defaults with one stick and then see if it runs after that, if so you will need to still make the above changes

If you do need more help, and get in the BIOS please do post what exact settings you are using/trying and I will advise >>>

Re: EP45-UD3P won't boot an OS

Only OEM Machines are plug and play, Gigabyte boards are enthusiasts/overclocker boards and meant to be manually setup by the end user

Ya, you should not be having such a hard time, but you also may not be using ram on the QVL list could be part of the issue

Then again, you could very well have a damaged board

Thanks for responding. I wasn't able to get into XP with optimized defaults or even the safe defaults using the one stick.

As soon as I get home from work I'll try what you said to get dual channel and fill out the form.

Get into XP? You are trying to install it right? You should not be using a XP Install from another system. If you know this, ok, just wanted to be sure

Re: EP45-UD3P won't boot an OS

Actually I didn't, I thought at worst I'd could just do a reinstall over the old XP and still keep things the way they are on the drive.

It doesn't matter because it resets when trying to install XP anyway, also won't let me install Ubuntu. It pretty much won't let me do anything except mess around in the BIOS.

Re: EP45-UD3P won't boot an OS

I was able to get dual channel working with those settings, only at 667 though. 1066 and 800 didn't post.

I tried the Ubuntu boot CD. The loading screen lasted a little longer than before, then the lights on the motherboard went off while everything else kept running, then I got an error on the screen about an I/O buffer.

                    Here are my settings:

Re: EP45-UD3P won't boot an OS

Can you test each stick of ram one at a time at stock settings for 5-10 passes to be sure none are faulty >>>
Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

And please tell me where you have your drives connected and post me a image of your Integrated peripherals page of the BIOS please

And you do have driving strength profiles, are you using the latest BIOS? If so, and you did load and apply optimized please try the hotkey. On the MAIN page of the BIOS press control + F1 and then go into MIT and see if you find it. If you are not using the latest BIOS I would suggest you get one stick of ram in there and be sure it is ok and flash with Qflash to the latest BIOS

Auto is for sure not good, and may likely not work (Hard to say what it wrong since you cannot load windows to check what Auto is giving you)

                      Try this

Re: EP45-UD3P won't boot an OS

                        Appreciate the help! :)

I tested the memory with no problems. Updated the BIOS again with f5. With the new settings you gave I was able to install XP. Could only run memory at 800mhz.

I still couldn't find the 'driving' setting. I do have something called 'load line calibration' though which is disabled. I also did have CPU EIST function, which I corrected below.

How do I get to 1066 and faster? I don't understand why I can't when I have these slow settings and higher voltages. Same thing happens with Corsair Dominator memory.

                        Here are my new settings.

                        Code:

Nice to hear you finally got installed!

Driving strengths are located here >>>

So 4.00A did not work for you to get 1066? If not then you may need to overclock a bit to get stable at 1066, low FSB and high ram multi is not so stable sometimes is why

You are using 2x1GB right? If so, try 4.00A again with MCH On Auto

I found the driving setting. I was looking for something that said 'driving strength' so I never noticed it. Should I change those?

Which MCH do I set to auto? There are several.

I got the processor to overclock to 2.7Ghz, when I tried 3Ghz it wouldn't boot so I taking out a memory stick and was able to get back into the bios. I assume it has something to do with the memory settings.

Should I be changing the settings that you gave before that helped me get it to work? I noticed on some of them you said 'for now'. All my settings are the same as before, except for some reason it says 900mhz for the memory speed instead of 800mhz. Thanks!

Yes you should set driving strength profiles. Test each with a memory benchmark that works for you to see which is best.

When I said the MCH Auto, I meant MCH Freq. Latch
