  • Need Help To Overclock a Q9550 [EO Stepping] on a EP45-DS4P

This is my first venture into the world of overclocking. I recently built a new PC and wanted to give overclocking a go. I don't want to overclock it to the extreme. Just a moderate amount, say maybe up to about 3.5ghz or so. Also, is it worth it to overclock the RAM and GPU? Ram is at 5-5-5-15 stock and GPU is also at stock. Any pointers?

    SPECS:

CPU: q9550 [EO Stepping] 2.83ghz stock
    MOB: Gigabyte EP45-DS4P
    GPU: Gigabyte 4870x2
    RAM: 4gb OCZ Platinum 1066 DDR2 [2x 2gb]
    COOLING: Thermaltake MaxOrb CPU Cooler
    CASE: Thermaltake Armor+ MX
    PSU: Amptac SuperFlower 1000watt
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint SATA II 750gb + 640gb + WD MyBook external 500gb
    OS: 32bit Vista Ultimate SP1

always leave the ram loose .. OC the CPU first ,,,, get stable to the point you want ... then worries about the Ram then .... some time have to underclock to OC better ... but get to the stable point first .... you don't want to guess in middle of OC what wrong ... no maybe because of ram ... that will make your OC harder and confusing.
my golden rule in OC is ... rather OC the CPU higher than OC the Ram .... always can comeback and adjust and balance out latter
