Re: EP45-DS3R and MCH Cooling
I often suggest and use myself the ThermalTake Extreme Spirit II (CL-C0034) for NB cooling, works very well and is under $20 >>>

Re: EP45-DS3R and MCH Cooling
Actually, Sorry guys I forgot this board has a heatpipe. I would suggest only that you redo the paste under it if you feel up to that. Use non conductive paste. I would not recommend the thermaltake heatsink over the heatpipe. Yes it may cool the NB better but your mosfets would then be bare

Re: EP45-DS3R and MCH Cooling
Think I'll keep the stock one since you say it has a heat pipe. I havent purchased the board yet so I wasnt aware of this. Im doing research for the parts. Then buy them all at once.Intel Core i7-920 (D0) Bloomfield 2.66GHz; ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro; GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD3R; Corsair XMS 6144MB PC12800 DDR3 1600MHz (8-8-8-24); Sapphire 100289L Radeon HD 5670 Video Card - 1024MB DDR5; Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 Hard Drive; LG UH08LS10 Blu-ray Disc Combo Drive; Antec EarthWatts EA750 750W

Re: EP45-DS3R and MCH Cooling
Hey, I am not sure why I wrote that comment! I think godto's comments and a PM had me confused with this post and a EP45-UD3R, it has a heatpipe.
The EP45-DS3R for sure does not!
And I would advise the above mentioned cooler for the MCH for sure!!!

Thanks. Next question, how easy is it to pull off the stock HS?Intel Core i7-920 (D0) Bloomfield 2.66GHz; ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro; GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD3R; Corsair XMS 6144MB PC12800 DDR3 1600MHz (8-8-8-24); Sapphire 100289L Radeon HD 5670 Video Card - 1024MB DDR5; Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 Hard Drive; LG UH08LS10 Blu-ray Disc Combo Drive; Antec EarthWatts EA750 750W

Re: EP45-DS3R and MCH Cooling
Very easy, just be careful when you put it back as there is a Bare silicon chip under there.
What you do is on the backside of the board CAREFULLY with needle nose pliers pinch the plastic pins together and push them right thru. Then just wiggle the heatsink and It will come right off. If you have issues you can warm the backside of the board with a hairdryer, but not too hot. It should come right off though, then use some Arctic Clean and get all the facotry Gunk off there and replace with NON Conductive and put back your new heatsink or the old one
You can use screws to replace the push pins, but if you do be VERY Careful not to tighten to much and crack the chip. LEAVE the square pad on there it is to cushion the heatsink so it does not crack the chip right away
