  • Memtest86+ failed on EP45-DS3R with 2x2 Mushkins. Any idea?

Hi, I finally built my new system, forgot to run memtest and before it install xp and vista (both 32 bit) without a problem. After installations I ran memtest86+ v2.01 and after an hour or so it gives errors. Btw the only thing I changed in bios is my ddr2's voltages.(2.04V) SPD values were right (5-5-5-15) Any idea about what can be done before accusing my ram modules?

if found error then run 1 stick at a time ... maybe can eliminate problem that way

I read some posts regarding increasing the mch voltage when using more than 2gb ram. Should I?

if MCH 1.100 .. up to 1.200 .. you do need to post full setting .. also some of auto option give too much voltage

            Try this >>>

And yes, you should test each stick one by one at stock set main timing, set voltage, performance Enhance on Standard and memory multi set to = Ram speed.

ok I'm trying these settings with one stick. Should I use them in their respective (1st and 3rd)dimms or both sticks at 1'st dimm slot? I'm using memtest with defaults right? Just booting up from the cd and let it alone?

Those are two stick setting. To test with one stick just set MAIN timings, Ram voltage, Performance Enhance to Standard, and Memory multi if you want (Can be left on auto if 1066 shows as ram speed on the right. Everything else auto for single stick tests

Ya, use slot one, test each stick for about 10 passes at normal test processes

oh! I started it already with one stick! Should I restart it? no errors for the first pass at least. You mean all tests be done 10 passes? It'll take plenty of time I guess?

Ya, I would restart it. Those settings are too lose and you really want to test each stick like I noted above to be sure neither are faulty before you start trying to get them running

Yes, 10 passes of the full test for each stick would be best. Just let it run, no need to select anything I mean

Ok I'll reset timings and restart memtest. Thank you. See you again 8 hours later if it all goes well :), or else you'll see my next post soon ahah :)

btw: I left mch core at 1.240. is it ok? all advanced timings are auto.

update: 1st stick of ram w/o errors after 4 pass.

heyyyooo :) well one by one tests went well. no stick failed. I started memtest with both sticks with the timings set you advised.(but I set multi to 3, 800 mhz) 9 pass w/o errors so far; took around 8 hours. so they are not faulty! :) You are amazing man, thanks. How come you guessed all these "fit" timings!? ;) And another question comes if it doesn't bother you, if I plan to make a mild oc to my cpu which settings should I change? For example running it at 2.8. 'cause my case is not well ventilated (just 1 intake and 1 exhaust fans) so I don't want it to overheat. There is already an oven inside; powercolor 4850 :)

Great to hear! Guessed timings? Ahhh, I know what is acceptable ranges is all.

Well, if you want to overclock a quad, I suggest you buy a better then stock cooler for starters. I dont think the stock one can get you very far, but all you do is change Ram to be all loose again so it dont cause you issues and then just raise the FSB until it fails to boot then you know you need more CPU Voltage. Small steps and watch your temps and you will be fine. Keep them under 70 at load

Well my cooler is not stock, a Scythe Zipang cooler, I chose it for its silence. It's not perfect but silent. So what I understand is, I'll raise the fsb to 300 or 333, set pci and pcie to 33 and 100 , change the memory multi accordingly, and feed my cpu with a little voltage? Ok, I'll try it. But I cannot go far because of inside heat I guess :) Thank you again lsdmeasap ;)
