  • Maximum MCH Vcore for P45?

Would really like to know the maximum value for the MCH voltage.
Figured out that it sets 1.36 volts when on AUTO for 500MHz FSB.
I needed at least 1.28 to get into Vista, this where Orthos failed after 3 seconds.
Tried 1.30 and now at 1.32 manually set, which is far more stable after 15 mins Orthos without an error yet....

What have u guys running 500FSB set on MCHcore?

I would like to hit 4Ghz by doing 8x500, since 1000mhz is the official rated speed of my Ram.

    Thanks.

Re: Maximum MCH Vcore for P45?

I use 1.24 for 450 FSB w/ 4GB w/ ram at 900. I really do not think you should need that much at all, I have ran 545 FSB with 1.32 I believe.

Maybe you have some other voltages causing less MCH to fail for you. How much Vtt are you using, and do you have the reference voltages all on Auto? Also have you set or added and ICH voltage at all?

Intels' rated spec is 1.21V Max (table 46) >>>

Please post me a link to your ram so I can check warrantied voltages. Either way 1.9 may not be enough for 1000Mhz

OCZ Technology | Products | Memory | OCZ PC2-8000 ReaperX HPC 4GB Edition

          Thats the RAM i use.
When i set 1.9v it seems stable after 20 passes of MemTest v2.01.
          Not a single error.

Is it possible the RAM causes Orthos to crash, even if MemTest doesnt come up with any error's at all??

          Thanks.

Re: Maximum MCH Vcore for P45?

It IS possible but not likely that Memtest will pass but not orthos. What you can do to be sure it run Orthos Small or Large FFT's and that will test the CPU only then you will know for sure but it is sounding to me like you need some voltage adjustments such as I suggeted above

And just so you know your ram is rated up to 2.1, and max under warranty is 2.15 so you can for sure use at least 2.0-2.1. Even though your ram passes memtest I would advise you use/test using at least 2.0. But to see if that is the issue you would need to change only the ram voltage and test first, But I dont think it is the issue I think you need to adjust more vcore and Vtt and maybe try less MCH

Re: Maximum MCH Vcore for P45?

I thought i was done with 4Ghz, but after all I seem to have a small but very strange issue!
I got everything stable with the settings showed in the attached screenshot.
As you can see its all Orthos stable over 24 hours. I did 20 memtest passes aswell, also resulting in 0 errors

My point is all about tRD 9.
I can conclude if i run tRD 9 with those settings everything is perfectly stable.
But i also run another profile (3.6ghz), when i try switching back to this 4ghz profile after doing another i cant get it to post @ tRD 9.

Tried many different things such as bumping the RAM voltage, it posts only very rarely (like 1 out of 20 times) for a first time on tRD9 @ 500 fsb.
Even more stupid is that when it DOES post on tRD 9, all other boots succeed once the first is succesfully done/set.

              tRD 10 always posts.

Any way to get around this since i want to run tRD 9 (its give's about +300mb readspeed and -2Ns latency).

Need help on this strange issue.
              Thanks!

Which MCH Latch are you using? How much MCH voltage? You may just need to add a bit more MCH Voltage or a vtt bump so that all ref voltages adjust a little

                  2.00D Latch
1.32v MCH voltage (1.30 causes Orthos to crash in a short time)
                  1,34 VTT

Again, its 100% stable, just problems POSTing it after it is set.
If first POST succeeds after tRD9 is set (this is only like 1 out of 10 times), the following POSTs go without any problem.... That until i run my 3.6ghz profile and want to switch back to 4ghz profile again. Then the trouble kicks in again with tRD 9.

                  Very very strange!

                      Already tried that mate :)
Guess i'll have to stick to tRD 10 then with 4GHz, since i want to be able to switch between 9x400 and 8x500.

Perhaps a future BIOS update will adress this issue since it really seems to be related to that.

One of these days I will do benchmarks to show the difference between those 2 profiles i use.

                      Most important differences in short:
                      9x400 4-4-4-10 tRFC42 tRD8
                      8x500 5-5-5-15 tRFC54 tRD10

Did you try older BIOS then if you think that may be part of the issue?

You should also add 399x400 tRD 7 MCH 400 and 399x400 tRD 7 MCH 333 to that list of bench comparisons
