  • EX38-DS4 memory quick question

    Hello.

Just wondering: can I put DDR2-533 memory in my EX38-DS4 ??

That would be perfect for me since I'm not overclocking and I have a Q6600. Since that is 1066FSB it means I could run 1:1 with DDR2-533 memories (1066/4=266 and DDR means that 533/2=266).

BUT, i checked the Gigabyte webpage for EX38-DS4 and it only states "1200/1066/800/677" as the supported DDR2 rams. Is that for real or a typo? I mean, why can't it support 533 if it supports all the faster speeds?

    /confused

I am not sure about that. I know you can run most any ram like 800 or 667 or 1066 ram at 533 speeds in the boards, so that would make me think...... Why not

I guess, all you can do is try. Sorry I do not know for sure, but the only ram I have around here at the moment is 667

Wait, I do have some 4200 which is 533. I will test it right now in my P45 board, which also says similar (DDR2 1333+/1066/800/667)

What you do need to keep in mind, is that speed and voltage is not all that matters. Some ram's are just not compatible.

I will test some Hynix 4200 right now, Will post back in a few

Sure does work! I did have to use 1GB Crucial underclocked with it, as I only had 2x256MB of 533 Ram and vista would freeze at the desktop. So yes, it works fine as long as you have enough >>>

I assume those specs are just "Official" rated specs, like the FSB ratings of "1600/1333/1066/800 MHz FSB" I use 1800 and 2000 FSB just fine
