  • Overclocking a EP45-DS3R + E8400

Hiya! I am new to overclocking and found this thread to help me OC my proc.

I used the second poster's settings to put my proc at 3.6ghz.

I have an issue though... My system config is:
    EP45-DS3R + E8400
    Zalman 9700 NT cooler
    4gb (2x2 kit) of Patriot DDR2 PC8500 @ cas5 timings and 1066mhz
    ATI DIAMOND RADEON HD4870 1GB GDDR5
    WD 320GB SATA Drive
    Antec 1200 Gaming Case
    700Watt Zalman PSU

Is there any way to get a tighterOC for my system specs? I mean, can i get my memory to 1066 (instead of 800 like the directions)
And also, When i check my system specs, it reports E8400 @ 3.0ghz, and 3.6ghz.... does this mean i only OCed 1 core?
Thanx for your time guyz, and i hope i'm not asking too much!!

    Re: Overclocking a EP45-DS3R + E8400

Please post YOUR full settings you are using and I will advise back.

Check with CPU-z for what speed your CPU is running, in the "Core Speed" box. CPU-z and some other apps will show 3.00 and 3.60 (3.00 in certain places Just means that 3.00 is stock)

This is Just a template I use to ask people their settings, pay no attention to the numbers in it, replace with yours

Thank you! As it turns out, you were right about windows displaying the original clock, and then the OC speed. CPU-Z clearz alot up.
As for my exact settings, i used these recommended settings you gave for the same proc OC on the article i linked in my first post.

I put the vcore to around 1.32 is the only exception, and on the fields with ranges #-#, i went with close to the highest range. But my memory is working at 800mhz... I wonder if it will be stable for 1066mhz like it is rated for? Tnx!

        Re: Overclocking a EP45-DS3R + E8400

Though that may be it. Please post me your exact Settings so I can better advise

But for now, I can say you will have to run a higher or lower FSB to get 1066. You can try this but it may not boot or be stable (Not because of the speed, but the strap used) >>>
        (G)MCH Frequency Latch...............: [333]
        System Memory Multiplier ..............: 3.20
        Memory Frequency (Mhz) ..............: 1080
