  • settings for 996580 mushkin & ga-ep-ud3p & question

The base components for my soon to build system: Mushkin 2x2gb 996580 ram, q9650 cpu, gigabyte ga-ep45-ud3p and vista home premium 64 bit. I do not plan to overclock at this time, but want a standard stable system, LSD please provide settings.

I also have a question, hope you can help.
The last computer I built was over 4 years ago. The amount of bios settings I see on newer motherboards are daunting.
    Questions:
(example) I see from the settings such as this:
    tRRD: 4(3-5)
    tWTR: 5(2-5)
    tWR: 6(4-6)
    tRFC: 60(50-60)
    tRTP: 6(4-6)
Number preceding parenthesis is the trial, numbers in parenthesis is the range, I assume. I change the settings in the bios to that of trial number given. Hopefully these settings will give good stable standard performance. Do I adjust each to the trial value given and check with memtest(?) from a booted iso cd or test it with memtest in windows (vista 64bit sp1)? Or do I test for errors for what length of time. I have heard memtest can change the values within windows (yes I have read not to make permanent changes with this program in windows, use the bios) Do I test each number from the range, one at a time, or test the trial number and declare

I would appreciate any guidance you can provide such as utilities needed, method etc. So far various guides I have perused are not "low" level enough to help me understand the method of deriving the various setting values. Hope you can help.

    Re: settings for 996580 mushkin & ga-ep-ud3p & question

Those settings in Parentheses would be optimal ranges, with the settings outside maybe what someone was using? Not sure where you grabbed them or the context.

And yes, you should adjust settings and test as you go, if you change too many at once you will never know what causes your errors. So best to go slow. This is the memtest86+ I Suggest, older ones will not work properly. Yes, you can boot from CD you will have to burn the ISO file, or use a floppy >>>
Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

I would recommend when testing each stick one by one a few full tests each. Then when changing settings one by one you may use 20-30 minutes each of test 2, 5, and 7. Once you think you are set and stable fully you should let memtest86+ run overnight, if not longer to be sure of stability

Test each stick one by one first at stock speed, rated main timings and manually set voltage. This way you be sure to find out on day one if you have any dead/dying sticks in the mix.

You should stick with the BIOS at first for changes, once you are pretty stable and think you have things set good you can play around with memset. But it isnt something you should be using first to find your best settings

Here is some stock ranges for you to work with
