  • GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS4P and 16GB - Issues?

I'm building a system for a friend and he wants memory maxxed out at 16GB running Vista 64 Home Premium as he does a lot of video stuff. I'm looking at using the GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS4P, Intel Q9550 (hopefully able to O/C past 3.0), and the OCZ 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Quad kit (all from Newegg). Any problem with 16GB if I only O/C the CPU a bit? Any special settings?

    Thanks!

    Crucial RealSSD C300 128GB SATA 3
    Gigabyte GV-R587UD-1GD Radeon HD 5870

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

I would suggest against 16GB of OCZ, many users are having issues with 8GB. And yes, MANY Settings will need to be manually set for 16GB, All of them likely. Which is alot.

Auto for settings will not work very well with anything above 2x1GB

Post back if you need help when you get going. I would suggest Mushkin If you plan to do 16GB, it is the only brand I have seen do 8GB stable easily.

Thanks, I'm going to try and talk him into 8GB of Mushkin. I don't even see a 4GB module of fast DDR2 on the Mushkin list. I'll get back if we move forward.

Ya, I really have not seen many 4GB modules. Maybe none, not sure.

A local store (and Google finds several others too) advertizes 996654 and 996655, both PC2-6400. Neither chip is on product list on Mushkins site, but both are mentioned in their forums (problems with some other motherboard brand ...).

Ahh so I see! I'd test out a pair for sure, I would assume from my knowledge of the brand that they would work in a Gigabyte board.

As you know, they would likely need some fine tunning
