  • GA-EP43-D3SL + E8400 - 4GHz?

    Hey all,

    I've this unexplained (Well, using my knowledge, that is. ) problem.
    I can set up my FSB up until 419, but even 420 would fail posting. (Nor a higher one, for example, 430-440, just in case there's a hole between them.)
    I've tried numerous set-ups, both on Auto or Manual (voltages, I mean.), nothing would help me get there. The interesting fact is I've read another thread here, by a person saying he's stuck at 419 too. To be honest, I just want to get to 445 = 4GHz, though I begin to believe that this board is not up to it. (Any personal experience here with this board posting at 445?)

    Currently, I run my system at 9 X 419 = 3.77GHz, CPU - 1.30v BIOS // 1.26v Windows on load || DRAM - 2.2v BIOS // 2.13v Windows, all other voltages are Auto.

    System is stable, tested on all known programs.

    Specs:

    CPU: E8400 E0 || Motherboard: GA-EP43-D3SL F4 || Memory: G.Skill PC2-800 1000MHz 5-5-5-15 2.1v || Temps: Load 40-45 // Idle 25-30 || OS: Windows Vista 64

    Re: GA-EP43-D3SL + E8400 - 4GHz?

    it should,change the MCH latch to 400,bump CPU termination to 1.32, reference 64% from Vtermination, mch core 1.24. and just for your knowledge, i've learned that from a very smart man, those boards have HUGE Vdrop, so anything u put on bios , is actually 0.4-0.6 less, try bumping to 1.4-1.425. if it wont post, u need to change the timings for 5-5-5-18, and about advanced timings ask "lsdmeasap".

    EDIT:

    CPU Thermal Monitor 2(TM2) ...........: [Disabled] WTFFFFFFFFFF DUDEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE ENABLE IT FASTTTTTTTT

      I've just tried all of that, and it would still not post.

      Don't exaggerate, as long as you keep your temps cool (and your eye on it ), there's no real need for this feature.

      @lsdmeasap: Save me?

          how much memory do you have? 2x1GB, 2x2GB or 4x1GB? try these settings for 4GHz... i've listed timings and voltages for both 2 and 4GB memory... 4GB is generally looser...

          the droop on the P4x boards is pretty massive, so start the voltage in the core high and work down if you cant boot. for all the timings i've listed a range for, start with them loose and tighten them up one at a time if you're able to boot, testing with MemTest86+ (Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool) between each move

              Right, please post a link to your exact ram so we may better advise you. I can say Auto is not going to be much help to you.

              The voltage you have, as suggested above, is really only 1.3 or less in in windows. So you will need to increase that for sure. And depending on your ram you will need various other changes, no matter what AUTO has got to go on alot of those

              Post your ram link, and if BongWizards settings do not get you going I will post some settings for you. Please also post your intended CPU Speed

                Well, I've just tried BongWizard's settings - no luck there.

                @Lsdmeasap:

                My ram is G.Skill's F2-8000CL5-2GBPI X 2 (2X2GB), rated at 1000MHz 5-5-5-15 2.1v.
                A link to G.Skill website: DDR2

                I enabled CPU Thermal Monitor 2(TM2), by your advice.

                As for voltages, I've tried both Auto or Manual - very high voltages.

                Do you think you'll be able to help me reach 4.00GHz?

                  Yes, you can do 4Ghz for sure. You just need to get your ram going first and then you will be fine.

                  Here, try this for 4Ghz. And keep at it, dont give up after a few tries it does take some time. >>>>

                    Re: GA-EP43-D3SL + E8400 - 4GHz?

                    Sorry,

                    I did try to update each one at a time and reboot and update again, but... it just didn't work. Everything worked, up until the last stage, where I turned up the FSB, even if just from 419 to 420. 419 boots, 420 doesn't; nor 450.

                    Do you believe an BIOS upgrade would help here?

                        Yes, it likely would since you are using such a old BIOS version. Please read here before you flash, and DO NOT USE @BIOS >>>

                        You did pick the Budget P43, + Budget Model "L" so you may be at the top end of the double budget board though, just not sure. But yes I would for sure flash to at least F7

                          I read through that topic, but I haven't a floppy drive; can I flash using a bootable CD?

                            There is info there on how to do it from USB, do you have one of those?

                            You do not need anything "Bootable" you can go right to qflash from the BIOS or the Post screen, using the "END" key at boot time, or while on the main page of the BIOS hit F8. Then all you will need is to have the BIOS .Fxx File on a USB or FAT32 Partition. Leave the USB Stick in when you reboot to Qflash (Just meaning you cannot plug it in while you are already in Qflash it wont be recognized)

                            But to directly answer you, yes you can flash from a bootable CD. You would need to boot to DOS from this CD, and then put all 3 BIOS files onto another CD insert it and flashing by running the batch file, or the Flashspi/flash895 command with the name of the BIOS file following the command

                            It would be much easier for you to flash from Qflash though, with a USB Stick

                              Yeah, I'm sure it would, though I haven't one.

                              As for the CD flashing, why would I need two CDs?

                              AND - Do you happen to have a boot image that I could burn?

                              Thanks lad, you're very helpful!

                              Cheers
