  • Memory Bandwidth Impossible As Standard?

    OK, here's the question:

    Is it possible to get memory running at anywhere near the advertised bandwidth without changing the standard FSB and multiplier?

    i.e. PC8500 memory is giving me around 7200MB/s transfer rate.

    The only way I've seen if give anywhere near to 8500MB/s is to increase the FSB of the motherboard and lower the multiplier.

    Any help on the matter would be appreciated!

    EP35-DS3L, Q6600 with 2 x 1GB Geil 1066.

    Well that would be the easy way to do it. But yes, you can tighten certain timings and things will speed up.

    And just so you know rated ram speeds are Theoretical and not actual Given for sure amounts. >>>


    What are you testing with anyway, and is that read, write, or copy rate?

    Post me a link to your ram, and then fill this in and I will advise >>>>

      How did you measure that bandwidth? MemTest86+, Everest or...?

        I get the same Everest numbers running at stock speeds. Even higher speed when Performance Enhancement is on EXTREME and R.G.B. on TURBO.

        All DDR21066 PC2 8500 modules are boxed as DDR2 800 PC2 6400 programmed into the SPD chip. The MB then sets the speed to 800Mhz via the SPD chip when you first boot up a new build. If just upgrading memory the MB sets to 1066Mhz.

        The 8500+ MB/s is attainable only when you overclock your system.

        With my fastest overclock yet I've attained 9,500+ MB/s Read, 9,000+ MB/s Write and 8,500+ Copy speeds. My host was clocked at 540Mhz, CPU at 3.2Ghz(6 x 540Mhz) and memory was at 1080Mhz.

            Those are pretty good numbers for stock speeds.

            I see you've tuned your Refresh to ACT Delay down to 4.

            That's about the highest Everest numbers that you're gonna get with no overclocking unless you put Performance Enhancement on EXTREME and R.G.B on TURBO.

            If you decide to adjust to those 2 above options you should put Refresh to ACT Delay on 52 initially. Both of those options will tighten up the sub-timings(even the ones you can't) a little bit more and still pass with MemTest86+, plus, as a result, your Everest numbers will increase at least another 250~300 MB/s (and that aint hay).

              i've just got one question... how do you guys get such high read numbers? i get 8238MB/s read, 9826MB/s write and 8962MB/s copy (just the last results)... why does everyone seem to get such high read speeds and such terrible write and copy speeds... it cant be just my timings based on that great a difference

                Who knows. Depends on hardware set-ups I reckon.

                I know if I OC my system a certain way my write speed is higher than my read and if OC'd another way my Copy speed is higher.

                LOL I dunno man....it's goofy.

                If I'm OC'd and I'm back in Windows messing around with MemSet I get even more goofy azz differences.
