  • System Power on Problems GA-EP45 DS3R

    Hi,

I have built many systems and consider myself capable changing and configuring BIOS but I am having a problem with my Ep45 board and hoping someone here has some new ideas or has experenced this.

I updated to BIOS F10 and have left everything on auto.
When the system is powered off overnight or a significant amount of time it will not post on the first try. It just hangs before video initialization. No beep. The reset button can then be pressed and generally it will post and be fine from then on (sometimes requires a couple of user initiated resets). If the system is running and resets are preformed or AC is cycled the system doesn't seem to have any problems.

    Things I have tried:
Up MCH voltage - It causes the bios to automatically reset a few times and then boots ok.
Up DRAM voltage to 2.0 - 2.1. Doesn't seem to help.
When the machine boots I have run mem tests for over 20 min with no problems. System hasn't had any blue screen problems or anything else.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance?

    My system is --
    GA-EP45-DS3R
    Intel Core 2 quad q6600 2.4ghz
    G.Skill 4gb (2 x 2gb) 1066mhz
    Sapphire Radeon HD3470 256mb 64bit PEx 2.0 x16 Video card

Re: System Power on Problems GA-EP45 DS3R

2x2GB of ram does need some tweaking. I would advise you set MCH to 1.2-1.3, manually set the ram voltage to the specified amount on your sticker for now, and trfc should be 52-62 manually set.

Depending on what MCH Latch you are using, you will need to adjust the trd (Static tRead Value as well) For 333 strap you can use 6(7-10), and for 400 Strap you must use 8 or above.

You should use the 400 latch with that ram, it will be better likely. If you do change strap, set tRD properly first then change ONLY MCH latch and reboot back to the BIOS

Auto for everything will not get you very far, if you would like a full suggested set of settings let me know and I can post them for you. If so let me know what you are running your CPU at as well.

When you did your flash, you did properly flash correct? Meaning flash, load optimized defaults, save and apply/reboot back to BIOS and make needed disk changes and other settings? If you did not do this, you have to in order to properly flash >>>

Re: System Power on Problems GA-EP45 DS3R

I got the same problem with my EP45-DS3R and my 2x2Gb Gskill 8500CL5D-4GBPK.

I tried the tweak you said and the more stable is MCH 1.20V and RAM Voltage 2.0V but everything else seem to be more stable using default configuration
      FSB 390

      400 latch
      Static tRead Value 10
trfc 68 (more stable than 52-62)

there is no trd value only trrd value, is that the same ?

      BIOS 11c

        tRD = Static tRead Value

Yes tRD is Static Tread Value, sorry!

If you try 1.20-1.24 MCH and have no luck, also try less that stock MCH Core Voltage as well, some boards have been known to need this

Re: System Power on Problems GA-EP45 DS3R

I tried a lot of stuff today (4hours) only to know that it seem to work better on 1.96V for the DRAM and 1.00 for the MCH even at 1.16/1.18/1.20/1.22/1.24 with defaults values.
            But i didn't tuch to this :

try less that stock MCH Core

it means less than default values ?

when i do that do i have to let the MCH Voltage up (1.16-1.24) or to 1.100v ?

You'll make it much easier for us to help you if you follow steps 1 - 4 in this post.
We need to know the details of your hardware setup and a link to your rams full specifications.
Most 2x2GB memory setups require MCH Core = 1.20 - 1.24 volts, some setups need 1.05 volts to work.

                  Motherboard : GA-EP45-DS3R
                  CPU : E8500@3705
                  GPU : Nvidia GTX275
Memory : F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK (trying to make it work)
I use another one for now.
                  Cf. G.SKILL-Products

I'm actually using other memory because i can't make it work!

Basically i tried most of what i saw here it doesn't seem to work so i can of gave up but if anyone got suggestion i will try them gladly.
If you think i can update my bios to the beta version. Which is in beta version for a moment now!

Re: System Power on Problems GA-EP45 DS3R

I made the bios update and it does't change anything it work bette (can get windows started) with :
                    MCH core : 1.05 (instead of 1.1)
                    MCH ref : 0.740 (instead of 0.760)
                    MCH/DRAM Ref : 0.920 (instead of 0.900)
And the RAM Voltage on 2.1.

But it just start when i do something like starting a program who needs a lot of memory it just restart with a blue screen
