  • Shutdown problem

Hi I own a 965P-DS3 and recently it refuses to shutdown. The fans are still on but my display and hard drive seems to be down. I've played around with my power management settings, I have also reinstalled windows Vista and reset my cmos, anything you can think of.

Now, this happened randomly, but I think it may have something to do with a @BIOS update where it failed to update with random errors showing up in the screen. I rebooted the pc and it seemed fine at that point. I even managed to reflash it using q-flash instead. It managed to shutdown for a few weeks after the failure, but now it doesn't. I have to manually turn it off via holding the power button.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

Usually shutdown problems are related with hd controllers. Did you installed the last drivers? What OS are you using?
    GA-Z97-D3H Windows Pro 8.1

I'm on Vista at the moment and what latest drivers do I have to install? If it's the ones available at the auto update I'm sure I've installed everything.

            Re: Shutdown problem

Nice to see your board survived @BIOS, Ya I meant do not use it, for sure!

So what BIOS are you using? Not sure? You can check in the BIOS on the MAIN page hit F9, or with CPU-z In the Mainboard tab. Your BIOS versions is up to F13 now >>>
            GIGABYTE - Support - Motherboard - BIOS - GA-965P-DS3 (rev. 1.0)

Here is your drivers as well incase you need to update them, if you havent for a while I do suggest it for sure >>>
            GIGABYTE - Support - Motherboard - Driver - GA-965P-DS3 (rev. 1.0)

Then please go into the BIOS, and on the MAIN page hit Control + F1, the screen will flash, this makes all hidden settings available on your board visible to you. Then go in the MIT Section and get your settings you are using and give them to me >>>

                  Re: Shutdown problem

Hi I've done everything you have said. It was indeed on 42, sorry. Was quite late at night when I checked and I wasn't quite awake.

The problem still persist and I'm not 100% sure if it's bios problem as I have set everything to default at one point to test, but it still happens.

Edit: Also, not sure if this will help. In safe mode when I try to shut down, instead of turning off display, hdd and leaving my fans etc. on. The computer freezes on the shutdown screen

                    Re: Shutdown problem

You are talking sleep there right? Not shut down, this is a whole different issue if you mean sleep (turn off display, HDD, fans, Ect)

Please post me back your exact settings so I can better know what all we are talking about here

And if you do mean sleep as shutdown, I would advise against that in vista, S3 sleep anyway. There has long been issues with P35/45 and S3 sleep that have been fixed with BIOS updates but I do not think they are working on 965P BIOS's any longer. At least not with any priority. So it may have never been addressed or fixed for 965P

If you do mean shut down as in OFF, and S3 sleep both do this then yes a clean install would help with Shutting down, not with S3 sleep. If you do want to keep using sleep only S1 would be advised

As you can see here in google it has been a huge issue with Gigabyte boards >>>
965P-DS3 S3 sleep issue vista - Google Search

Just recently fixed in P45 for sure though, P35 some months ago. But I have never heard about a 965P fix

                      Re: Shutdown problem

I'm talking about shutdown. I'm on S1 and shutting down will cause the fans to still be on as I've mentioned before.

S3 sleep has worked for me in the past and I did use it until the fans didn't turn off as well. I then tried shutting down and the fans wont go off either. I switched back to S1 and tried shutting down and the problem still exists.

I've tried reinstalling Vista twice, once on the same drive and then again on another. Both times yielded the same results for me, it didn't solve the problem.

You mean the updated BIOS settings?

The things I have changed from before was

PCI Express Frequency (Mhz)_______ [100] instead of Auto
DDR2 OverVoltage Control__ [+0.1V] so its 1.9v instead of normal

All of these should be on default besides EIST and C1E which I have now disabled.

Well I meant the full table

What is your ram's warrantied voltage amount printed on the sticker as well?

Anytime, Hopefully I can get you fixed up. As for Actually shutting down completely, S3 sleep is out of my hands though for sure.

You did load optimized defaults and save and apply and reboot before making changes after your last BIOS flash right?
