since lsdmeasap has been so helpful to me in the past, i figured i could come here and get some help. but, if anyone else has any advice, please, lay it on me.
recently got myself a E8400 with the newest E0 stepping, to go along with an EP35-DS2L. first thing i did was take it right to 3.6ghz (400x9), leaving everything on auto except i added +.1v to my ram. set memory multiplier to 2 (1:1), pci to 101, etc etc. booted up right into windows. bios reports ~1.23vcore, cpuz 1.214 idle 1.2 load. ran orthos for almost 2 hours no problem. load temps didnt exceed 48C. so i was happy with that.
now, when i try to go any higher, i found that i needed to add a quite a few notches to the vcore just to get into windows. went for 4ghz (445x9), it boots into windows, but as soon as orthos starts i get errors. ive tried alot of different combinations, bumped the NB and SB, even went to +.2v ram. i had to set it to ~1.35v in bios to get to boot into windows, quite a bit of volts to add if you ask me. it just isnt stable.
im thinking that i just might have gotten unlucky with this chip, because everything ive seen, this chip should have no problems getting up there. unless im missing something/not doing something right, as this is only my 2nd overclock. and i know this post might be kind of pointless right now, since im not on my rig im at work, and wont be able to get back on it till later tonight, so i might not be able to answer questions you might have to the fullest extent. then again, i didnt spend THAT much time tweaking it. so it might just take a little more elbow grease.
thoughts? ideas? questions? thanks in advance guys
im using gksill 2x2gb ddr2 800 ram. Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory
lsd if i could find that template with all the bios options to fill in i'd post it here but i cant seem to find it.
