GA-MA78GM-S2H XP installation resets all around

I am a newbe, my config is:

GA-MA78GM-S2H
1X2GB RAM 800Mhz Kingston
Athlon X2 5000+
1 year old IDE 80 GB Western Digital HD
6 year old LG DVD/CD reader
the config is very modest - nothing else on board
I upgrade the XP installation on HD

During XP installation ("installing drivers" phase)
I get very systematic "blue screen" and reboot of the system
I cannot even run XP in troubleshooting mode
becouse XP upgrade refuses to run in troubleshooting mode

any hints, please?

Have you used this XP install CD before or is it a new burn?

LSD thanks for the advice;
I followed the rule 'get then new installation"

On old PC I had a proper OEM XP since 2002
(Windows upgrade used systematically)

Thist time I used regular new XP OEM SP2 installation (not trusting Vista)
and it offered "repair" of the old one. It did not worked

So I'v put little 320GB (HD Seagate Sata);
I'v switched off old 80GB HD ATA
and installed XP with no problem.
The "pro" is that it works. The "conta" is that
I have to install all the sw and utilities again.

What might be the tecnical problem? I have two suspects
(dont know which more probable):
1) old windows could no be upgraded, even if win installer offers that, or
2) old DVD/CD reader on the same ATA controller with HD did not work properly

Likely 2 was the issue there as you should be able to do a repair install anytime
