  • ga-g31m-s2l motherboard having IDE issues.

so I built a new PC with old ata IDE drive as drive C and brand new SATA drive as drive E.

Worked fine for several days then it stopped working.
    It says disk boot failure.
i can only get it to recognize the SATA drive now and not the IDE one.
(don't ask me how but OS is on SATA drive and I think the MBR is on the old drive)

The CD drive is on the same IDE cable and won't power up or be recognized either.
when i disconnect the IDE cable the cd drive will have power.
I've switched out IDE cable, switched jumpers to master and c/s.
i've tried just the old HD w/o cd, I've tried the CD w/o HD (to try and put MBR on SATA drive).
    nothing works.
i got it to boot up once last night, and while looking at the way things were set up, it was basically identical to what I had running before. Not sure why it worked then.
But due to lightening storm I had to shut it down so before i could do any work.
I figured it was working so no big deal, but today no such luck.

    BIOS
    intel core w duo
    bios v6.00 (F6) i think
graphics card is pci express sappire ati radeon HD 3650 GPU
2 GB DDR2 memory (one stick)
    OS Windows Xp Pro edition.

if you need anymore info from me please let me know.
    thanks.

Can you post images of your Advanced BIOS page, and Integrated Peripherals page?

You should do a clean install, using the IDE as storage, and your OS on the SATA drive, that would be best

can't do a clean install as right now I can't get CD drive to work.
taking it to the shot to see if it is a hardware problem or not.

The CD drive will not work on it's own set as Cable select or Master on the end of the IDE cable with no other drive on it, and then install OS to the SATA drive?
