  • GA EP45-DS4 and Corsair CM2X2048-6400C4 problems

Hello I'm new to this forum and I hope that someone can help me with my new system.

    System: GA EP45-DS4 with Core2Duo E8500
    Memory: Corsair 2x CM2X2048-6400C4
Problem: System very unstable with this memory

Tried it with extreme memory profile enabled and disabled in bios
Tried 1.8 Volt and 2.1 Volt

According to SPD memory can have 5-5-5-18 timings @400 Mhz
    RRD-3
    WTR-3
    WR-6
    RFC-51
    RTP-3
Copied these settings in bios with no luck.

With extreme memory settings enabled the system is just as instable. It will then run on 4-4-4-12 @ 2.1Volt

When I try 1Gig of Hynix 6-6-6-18 memory the system works just fine.

I would like to use the fast Corsair memory in this system and it feels like I am missing an important setting in bios for it to work. Maybe someone can help me out here.

I have set the PCI Express freq. to 100 Mhz manually and I disabled CIA2 in bios.

Re: GA EP45-DS4 and Corsair CM2X2048-6400C4 problems

Is this 2x1 or 2x2GB? I will assume for now 2x2 because of your trfc setting mentioned above. Can you please post a link to the exact models you bought so I can be sure of some things? Thanks!

2x2GB for sure need some adjustments, Auto is not best for most things, and XMP can be disabled and manually set things is best. Performance enhance and trd setting along with MCH voltage is likely your issues.

What BIOS are you using now? F6, F7, and F8 have improved ram compatibility and performance. F inparticular has fixed issues with the 2.40 memory multiplier which you would need to be using, so if you are using F5 BIOS you may have to update to at least F6

Re: GA EP45-DS4 and Corsair CM2X2048-6400C4 problems

      Thanks for replying!

I am using two modules of Corsair CM2X 2048-6400C4 DHX memory
link: Welcome to Corsair :: XMS2 DHX Product Information
Tried it one at a time and both in slot 1-3 and 2-4

Allready flashed to bios F8 using Qflash.

All these settings are confusing me; I still think some adjustment needs to be made in bios settings.

Tried some settings today without any luck; bluescreens after a minute ore so.

          Thanks for replying again!

But no, these settings don't work either.

Do you perhaps have any more suggestions?

Can you test these settings in the other set of slots? Like 2 and 4 if you are using 1 and 3? They should for sure be working.

If not luck, try this (And this means the ram is DOA (Not run to spec timings) in my opinion or not compatible with your board) >>>

              Thanks again, but no luck.
              Guess it's a incompatibility issue.
Bought two pieces of the same memory, but now the 1gig variety and they worked out of the box. Only adjusted the bios to 2.1 Volt,
I noticed they are on the tested list on the gigabyte website.
The ones with a capacity of 2 gig aren't.

Could be all it is, they are all programmed differently, the ram I mean.

So you are all up and running now then? Great if so!

Yes the system is running fine now.
I noticed the 1 gig corsairs are programmed differently in SPD then the 2 gig ones.

Maybe i can stick to the settings of the 1 gig ones and then try the 2 gig ones with it?

Well for now I'm happy that things are working, maybe I can use the memory later in a different system.

Na, Not likely 1GB settings will work for 2GB sticks for sure.

Well at least for now you have a working system, if you do ever plan to get 2x2 I highly suggest Mushkin brand
