  • Pls help me configure EP-45-DS3R

I just finished building my computer with the following hardware.
    GA-EP45-DS3R
    Intel E7200
    Sapphire HD 2600 Pro
    OCZ 4GB (2x2) DDR2 800 (Default timing 5-4-4-15 2.1v)
    WD 400 GB HDD SATA
    Samsung 22x DVD SATA
    Vista Ultimate 64bit
    <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
I'm a newbee. Could someone please suggest the optimal settings for my setup?
I also have trouble running Dolby configuration tool. After installation it crashes as soon as I start the tool. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Re: Pls help me configure EP-45-DS3R

I can help you with your timings for sure. As for the Dolby App, I have yet to install my P45 board so I cannot say for sure what your problem is. But I can suggest that before you install it to install all windows updates, and also be SURE you have installed the Intel Chipset Package >>>

And the RealTek HD Driver >>>>
    Realtek

Then try to install the Dolby app. If you still have no luck, let me know I should have my board installed by this next week and I can better tell you if I see any issues

As for suggested MIT settings, I would suggest this for Stock E7200 and 4GB @800 >>>

Thank you so much. you are great. Can you also suggest some OC settings as well. I have installed all the current patches on Vista 64 Ultimate SP1 but no luck with the Dolby app. I will get in touch with the tech support today. Thank you once again.

Hmm, well not sure about the dolby app until I see myself If I have issues or not. And just for you I will test 64bit as well.

Ya, when I get home I can post ya some overclock settings, just let me know what CPU Speed you want to try to run

And while you wait (As I wont be back until late tonight) read the Pinned guides, they may not directly speak of your BIOS, but they will help you learn alot of what things are in there.

Re: Pls help me configure EP-45-DS3R

I'm not sure, but this could be a 64 bit compatibility issue with Dolby app. I searched and could not find anything in the previous posts with Dolby. I have been reading the guides since last night and I will continue doing that. I'm thinking of running my CPU at 3200. Do you have any suggestions on this. I would also like to OC my RAM as well.

I have another rookie question for you. I want to run my SATA HDD to take full advantage of 3Ggb/sec. When SATA RAID/ACHI Mode is disabled does it runs on 3mb/sec or do I need to enable ACHI to take advantage of the full SATA II speed.

Look forward to hear from you. Thanks and hv a gr8 weekend.

Re: Pls help me configure EP-45-DS3R

Could be, That is why I said I would test 64bit as well. I also looked around and found nothing! Which makes me think maybe it isnt as many users use 64. How did you go about installing things driverwise? Maybe you have a driver installed blocking it? Is there maybe a BIOS setting you missed for this?

Like I said I will test, hopefully soon. Gonna try to get my Data moved around and off my RAID tonight and then I can install my P45

As for your SATA, it will run at the full speed the board will allow always, yes AHCI may be a few MB/s faster but not noticeable at all. One thing you for sure need to do though is check the back of the drive, some ship with a TINY jumper on them to limit speed. If you see one get a needle out and remove it, it will slow the drive to SATA I (1.5Gb/s)

Re: Pls help me configure EP-45-DS3R

You shouldn't install any Dolby audio utilities. All you need, its all there, after you installing the drivers.
Realtek High Definition audio driver you have on the cd that came with the mobo or the latest you can get on the website.

And even before you attempt to overclock, make sure your system run stable at stock settings, first of all. That is nothing crashing and nothing BSODing on you, so that later you could difference between the things.

                  1.25-1.3 << Needed for 2x2GB

but the specs for the P45 chipset is very specific regarding the value of Vcore stating it as:

                  VCC
                  (Intel 82P45,
                  82P43 MCH
                  GMCH)
                  (G)MCH Core Supply Voltage Min:1.045 Nom: 1.1 Max:1.155 V

Even further they say: "At conditions exceeding absolute maximum and minimum ratings, neither functionality nor long-term reliability can be expected. Moreover, if a device is subjected to these conditions for any length of time its reliability will be severely degraded or not function when returned to conditions within the functional operating condition limits."

                  Datasheet at the link: www.intel.com/Assets/PDF/datasheet/319970.pdf

I know sometimes is necessary to apply a greater voltage ...and because may be a drop in the mother board the chipset actually do not receive that volts, but what the datasheet says scared me because you can not read the real VMCH Core Voltage as for example the CPU Vcore which you can know the real value using CPU-Z.

                  Please comment....

I would suggest you start higher then you think you need, then work backwards until it fails to boot, then go back up a notch or two.

So you may want to manually enter the stock Value first, as I see some will do 3.2 at stock, if not then try starting with 1.3 and see if it boots, if so lower it until it doesnt, then go back up a few

                    @TweakNoob

Not sure about all that, but I know it is fine. P35 had similar and no ones NB is dead because of added voltage. Can you post it's PDF? I ask that because I KNOW it's default which was 1.25 and many used up to 1.4-1.5 then

Re: Pls help me configure EP-45-DS3R

                      Hello Lsdmeasap...and Jaguar

I checked the specs for Intel P35 and P45 Chipsets and they are different, because P45 uses a 65nm process compared to P35 90nm process.
A 65nm process allow for smaller sized chips but also implies a reduced voltage. The same is true for the processors (series 8000 CPU uses 45nm process wich uses lower Vcc than their predecessors)

max allowed Vcc for P35 chipset is 1.375Volts while Vcc max for P45 chipset is just 1.21Volts as I sed before.

Here are the links to the PDFs:

                      P45 Chipset see page 435

                      P35 Chipset see page 374

I also have doubts because checking the MCH core voltage with EasyTune6 (the software included with the MoBo) reported MCH Vcore=1.32 Volts when using setting AUTO in BIOS. (Must use the "advanced" tab to see voltages of the MoBo) so I changed MCH core voltage to MANUAL in the BIOS and set it to 1.2 volts just in case.

By the way I am using MCH core voltage of 1.1 volts in my GA-EP45-DS4 MoBo with 400MHz FSB and 333MHz MCH strap. I run ORTHOS more than 8 hours without any error. (Tested with 8x multiplier to get CPU freq. of 3.2GHz for my E8500 to be sure there are no failures because of the CPU frecuency)

I hope this info to be useful and may be it arrives before any MoBo deaths with P45 chipset....

Thanks, It will be fine though. Like I said Everyone used +2 or more with P35 and no bad NB's I have seen. So same would likely apply with P45, but ya, maybe just a little less. I will soon have my own P45 installed but I will not be able to test this out until I get some 2x2GB

Ya, you using stock or less will be fine since you are only using 2x1 ram, additional Voltage is only needed for 2x2 or more of ram

                        Thanks again for the PDF's

                              Hey LSDMEASAP,

Let me start off by saying this seems like a great place with lots of info.

Just wondering how your P45 board was doing and if you've overclocked it yet...

And relating to this thread I just picked up a DS3R board plus the E7200 and was wondering if those setttings for the overclocking would work on a stock HSF or would you recommend getting something better? What if I wanted to go a little higher, perhaps to 3.6Ghz? on 2x2gb OCZ Reaper ram (800Mhz)

                              thanks
