EP45-DS4 reboot-loop at POST

After some testing, i think the Mainboard is defective... i tryed 2 differend Graphiccards (the 8800gt and a 7900gt from XFX) tried with and without sata / ide cable attached (ide is only the dvd burner, 2 sata`s are the Harddiscs) with and without case coolers.

The only thing i`m not able to test is a different CPU, cause on the Gigabyte site, they say that the Q9550 is supported with Bios Version F5, it is the first posted there with some issues, but im not sure if it is installed from the manufacturing, or if there is a older BIOS not listed on the page.

I think this was what i made so far, my ideas are all gone, no clue whats wrong there :/

anyone a Idea where to search for other Problems?

hmm well then i phone to gigabyte in germany today, maybe they got any information on this, or they change the mobo directly

Please try it again with ONLY one stick of your Mushkin Ram in slot one, a Graphics card, and your CPU/Heatsink only. If that posts, and you can get in the BIOS then you can start hooking up the rest of your hardware (Except the rest of your ram) one by one to be sure it is ok.

After you hook up all hardware and it is ok and you can still get in the BIOS, then do the following please. After you set these settings you can shut down, and install the rest of your ram >>>

If this does not work, you may need to Clear the CMOS and try it all again. See my Guide for BIOS flashing for Clear CMOS info, or try your Clear CMOS button. After you clear CMOS, you should get a Checksum Error this is normal, choose a BIOS to load and hit ok. Then try the above again with one stick of ram, and do the whole process over.

Once you get it running, I can give you some full settings, The above is just to get you started with 8GB as it is for sure harder then 2x1GB

It`s not possible... Tested yesterday evening with the 512MB Apacer memory stick and with one mushkin stick in every slot in every possible combination, but nothing worked... alway freeze on the POST screen before i can enter the BIOS.

Sometimes the System shtu down itself and restarted 5 seconds later, even bevor the Fans throttled down on a system start (normal when you start the system, the fans are on full speed for about 5 seconds, then throttle down on a needed level for the temperatures and the system begin to boot, but sometimes the system shutdown it self even before the fans throttled down.

I have no clue, but my opinion is that the Board is somehow destroyed... it was like that from the beginning...

i thought it may be that the Power Supply is not strong enough, but after switching from the chieftec 360W with 1 12V lane to a LC power 550W with 2 12V Lanes etc. i`m sure it gets enough power (the Board is now connected with the 24pin and a 4pin 12V connection)

Another thing:

How much is the difference betwenn the Clear CMOS Button and the use of removing the Battery for 5 minutes?

So far i only tryed with clearing the CMOS with the button, not with the battery, but i do not think it makes a difference.

I do not know what the difference of removing the battery or using the button would be. but I can say 5 minutes is NOT Enough. My advice in the Flash guide is to put a Jumper on the Clear CMOS pins for 20+ minutes. There is pins beside the button. No need to remove the battery

If you do not get a "CheckSum Error" when you reboot then the CMOS did not get properly cleared so try again

You can also, see my guide for flashing methods, then just flash the newest or the Same BIOS into there again and it will clear the CMOS in the process by program commands. Here is the Guide, Just incase you are not sure about something >>>

Ok, gonna test it when i`m back home at around 17:00 pm (GMT +1) and post the result.

So far i didn`t get any checksum errors when pushing the clear CMOS button.

Ya, then it did not clear the CMOS properly. Use a Optical or Hard drive Jumper on the Clear CMOS pins and let it sit for 20+ minutes With the PSU unplugged from the wall

Ok problem solved, it seems that Gigabyte dislikes microsoft ;)

After all the testing, i took the board out of the case, placed it in the box from gigabyte, then i got the idea maybe its a screw from the case. installed the energy cordes and the graphiccard, and that thing was working...

ok placed the board back in, running. fine... installed 1 device after the other, until 1 device was left...

It seems that the XBOX 360 HD-DVD Device was doing something to Gigabyte, that made the Board at the BIOS crashing... ^^

Installing Vista at the moment can`t wait to see if its finally working now, but it looks like this :D

Nice to hear it! If you would like some help with this XBox device let me know and tell me more about it, and what BIOS settings you had for USB devices set and I will see what I can find out for you
