  • Overclock E8400 on EP43-DS3L

    Hye all..

    Here's my specs :

    E8400 C0 with CM Hyper 212
    EP43-DS3L (F7)
    Corsair XMS2 DHX 2x2GB PC-6400 DDR2-800
Cooler Master Real Power Pro 550W
    Sapphire HD4850 512MB DDR3

The setting below is what im using right now. the problem is i cant get the FSB higher than 385MHz. at 390MHz,can load windows but fail stress test using Prime95. i set thememory multiplier to 1:1 so that i wont stress my RAM at higher frequency. thinking of OC till 3.6GHz only.

so, any recommendation for the setting? any help is highly appreciated.

3.6 eh, Ok. Try these settings for 3.6 >>>

You will of course need to find your own Stable Vcore, as all chips and boards are different. Best advice there is to start high and bring down later until it fails, then raise up a notch or two. Your board also has a large vdroop so keep that in mind as well. I'd say for 3.6, you will need 1.325 -1.4 set in the BIOS, all of which will be much lower in windows, and even lower at LOAD.

Yes, and test with memtest86+ with each move as you slowly lower them

Good luck, Ill see you later today or tonight when I get back

hey there. report a bit.i put my vcore till 1.35v for 400*9.run OCCT,2 minutes later it stop testing coz it said CPU too hot lolz!tried 1.32v failed OCCT also.

            Re: Overclock E8400 on EP43-DS3L

At 1.32 you should for sure not be too hot as that is likely 1.31 or less at load. Sounds like you need a better cooler or need to redo the paste on it.

Or, is there some adjustment to be made to what OCCT thinks is too hot? I have not used it for a while so I cannot remember. How hot was it getting?

            *EDIT*
Just checked it out, what is the MAX CPU temp set to? If it is 70C, then yeah your system is too hot.

You likely do not need that much volts, but you also should not be running that hot anyway. Try less for sure and see how stable you can get it lower, that is the point anyway. I just gave you a high starting range because your board has a larger vdroop, and All chips are different. You should be fine with less, see how low you can go before it wont boot at that speed. Then bring it back up some.

And you also need to keep in mind that it looks to me like OCCT has not been updated for 45nm Temps.

So I would be using Orthos and realtemp or coretemp to watch temps

Max CPU temps or MAX CORE temps? for CPU,its around 51C. for CORES,yes,70 max. =[

i read all review bout my CM Hyper 212.all shows low temp.but mine pretty high. maybe need to redo paste.but i never done it before..

                Re: Overclock E8400 on EP43-DS3L

I mean in OCCT, I do not see Core Temp setting, maybe I have a older version then.

Ya, maybe you used too much, less is more. A THIN layer is all you need

Ill see you tonight. I better go check for a new OCCT, I dont use it but it is good to have on hand the newest for issues such as this

                  Re: Overclock E8400 on EP43-DS3L

Nope I have OCCT 2.0.0a which is the latest one, And I do not see a CORE temp anywhere in the settings, only CPU. Which Could be core I suppose but I dunno.

But either way, it would be wrong with a 45nm CPU. And that I am sure of because it does not match any other temps I have shown. So either raise that Warning temp. Or just use orthos and coretemp or realtemp

If you will download coretemp you will see how much it is off. latest Version >>>

lol. i got both CORE AND CPU readings. in OCCT,the reading for core is da same as in CORETEMP.same also in SpeedFan.

btw,i'll try redo paste then. and add one more fan for the cooler

Ahh Ok I see it now as well, Sleeping I guess!

But I do see that it does not distinguish what the MAX temp warning is about cpu or cores. But either way 70 is HOT!!!

yeah.but from the comparisons i made, those temp limit is for CORE coz when my core hit 70,it stop testing.

Yeah, it could be if coretemp is showing the same

How did your re-paste come along?

i didnt do yet =x afraid i might damage my CPU/cooler accidently.maybe can let the pc shop owner to do for me. =P

btw,my PC stable at 385*9 only for now at 4-4-4-12.stable at 390*9 before.but after a while, hang =\ dont want to lower the ram timing coz will slow down performance.so,its ok for me now.

maybe try OC more after redo paste or get new casing and fans.using Elite 330 only now lol.

It is easy to do. But yeah if you do not feel up to it, dont get in there. I would ask a friend before I would ask a shop. For a few reasons, your friend will likely do it correct and better, and he also will not charge you for something that takes only a few minutes to do.

What freq is your ram running 4-4-4-12 at?
