    Re: HELP on overclock GIGABYTE-X48 DS5 to 3.4ghz (8.5 x 400FSB)

    Ahh ok, Thanks!

This makes it much easier to help you. Have you looked at the 2 Guides I have pinned in this forum? If not please take some time and read them so you can better understand the BIOS.

I would need to know what you want to try to overclock to if you want me to help with that. For now I will give you settings for the CPU Speed and Ram Speed you have in use now

    Robust Graphics Booster___________ [Auto]
    CPU Clock Ratio ____________ [8]
    CPU Multiplier ______________ [0.5]
    CPU Host Clock Control_ [Enabled]
    CPU Host Frequency (MHz)__________ [400]
    PCI Express Frequency (Mhz)_______ [100]
    C.I.A. 2__________________________ [Disabled]
System Memory Multiplier (SPD)____ 2.66 (2.66 X 400FSB = 1066 Ram) << This is the Ram Speed, This X FSB = Ram Freq
DRAM Timing Selectable_______ SPD __ [Manual]

    Performance Enhance = [Standard]

CAS Latency Time________________ 5 <----Follow the Ram
    Dram RAS# to CAS# Delay_________ 5 <----Follow the Ram
Dram RAS# Precharge Delay_______ 5 <----Follow the Ram
Precharge Delay (tRAS)__________ 15 <----Follow the Ram

The below are ranges, set to highest first! Then lower one at a time testing between each move for errors With Memtest86+

    ACT to ACT Delay (tRRD)_________3-4
Rank Write to READ Delay________ 3-6 (9-11)
    Write to Precharge Delay_________3-6
Refresh to ACT Delay______________ 48-50 (52-62)
    Read to Precharge Delay__________ 3-6
Static tRead Value_______________7-10 (Most Impact on Ram Performance, Too low WILL HARD FAIL)
Static tRead Phase Adjust________ 1-31 << Leave on AUTO or Zero or 1-31

    System Voltage Control____ [Manual]
DDR2 OverVoltage Control__ << This is your ram Voltage (Default is 1.8v) So +0.1V = 1.9V
    PCI-E OverVoltage Control_ +0.1v << For stability
FSB OverVoltage Control___ +0.1v << For stability
(G)MCH OverVoltage Control This is your Northbridge, 2x2GB ram needs some added usually +0.1V, 0.125V, 0.15V, or 0.2V. I would say start at .15 and then try lower later

CPU Voltage Control_______ [1.20~1.25] Yes, 45nm CPU's use very little volts at stock settings. And you may not need 1.3 or more until you pass 3.6 or so.

I use only 1.32 on my 45Nm cpu at 4.2

Because of the time difference, its 1.05 pm here hehe...
Im from Singapore and the CPU temp is 38c in the BIOS, room temp should be 25c-30c, the 38c should be ok right?
will gonna try your setting to9 and will post you my result~ thanks :)

No Vista 64 is no problems

Use the higher ranges first. The lower ranges are for later after you get setup, then you can try to lower them to tweak them to the lower ranges

                  That hot at only 3.2GHz?

If so you should really check or redo your heatsink, I dont even think the stock one should be that hot at idle or load at only 3.2

                    u got it right!
                    its so weird...
when i put my fan face rear of the casing (<---CPU) the temp is so high
when i replace it, i put the fan of the cpu cooler to the front of the case, the temp bcome normal...
i think i din put them well at 1st~
                    now im at 3.2ghz, 45c.....
                    i dare not go 3.4ghz... =X

                    which u think is better

CPU fan face to rear panel, the rear panel fan will draw the air out
                    or
cpu fan face the front panel, the front panel got litle holes can let the air out

(i have fan at the bottom of the front case and big fan at side panel and my case got holes on top...which setup for heatsink is better?)

I would point your fan towards the back of the case, with the fan itself on the front side of the case/heatsink. So it blows thru the heatsink and out the back of the case. Like so >>>

Back of case <<< AIR <<< Heatsink <<< Fan <<< AIR<<< Front of case

You should also have a rear and front 120MM fan if you case can hold them to suck air in the front and blow air out the back

think i was wrong.i use the cpu fan to draw the air frm heatsink...
should blow the air through heatsink then the rear fan draw the air out right?
                        gonna change it to9 again~~

Well both are right really, only a test would show which is better. Sometimes pull is better then push, sometimes push is better then pull. You just have to try both and see which is best with your fans, heatsink and case >>>

Both below are Correct in reality, test to see which is cooler

                          Push
Back of case <<< AIR <<< Heatsink <<< Fan <<< AIR<<< Front of case

                          Or

                          Pull
Back of case <<< AIR <<< FAN <<< Heatsink <<< AIR<<< Front of case
