  • EP45-DS3R Memory voltage problem

    Hey.

    I have the OCZ Reaper 1066MHz 4G Kit 5-5-5-18
    (
OCZ2RPR10664GK) x2 and im not able to run em on 2.1v...

Whenever i change from 1.8 to 2.1v in bios it will fail to post a few times, then boot normally, and upon entering bios i will get the message box that it has reverted settings..

Sooo, any help would be appreciated, im seriously tired of this now..

Oh yeah, i got the F7 bios (was the newest last time i checked, although i see they have added more memory fixes now..)
Is there a way to know if any of the BIOSes fixes voltage, or if any of the fixes are for my specific ram?

Thanks for any help. (tried sending a mail to gigabyte support but have yet to get an answer..)

        Re: EP45-DS3R Memory voltage problem

        Yeap, Anytime.

I may not be around till 11 PM or so tonight. So if you feel froggy before I get back, what I would suggest you add for sure is some MCH voltage and manually set trfc to 52-62, then set your DDR2 Voltage to 2.1

If you are not changing anything else (Like trying to also overclock at the same time as this voltage change to 2.1) then you should have no issues.

4GB just normally needs at least +.1 sometimes more on the MCH Core, and if trfc is too low also it wont boot.

Also be sure Both Static tRead Values match and that they are not too low, 7-9 will likely be fine, 6 will likely not

Good luck, Ill see ya tonight if you are around then

          EDIT:
Im not looking to overclock the rig or anything, i just want the ram to be stable, as it is now on 1.8V i cant even run memtest without it freezing/throwing out a bucketload of errors.. Although my system is stable, sort of.. Had a few hard crashes but i recon they will vanish once my voltage is right..

            Re: EP45-DS3R Memory voltage problem

You are going to HAVE TO change things from AUTO. It is not overclocking at all, just tightening the ram timings up. Or getting them right, AUTO Changes often from what you see on the left in the BIOS (That is just what is used right at that moment)

I will write you a more in depth answer when I get home tonight, just popped in to check my email and check on things here for a second.

              Re: EP45-DS3R Memory voltage problem

Ok mate, thanks for the reply.
I will try this when i get home, but im curious as to what the settings:

Dimm1 Clock Skew Control...............:[-500ps] WHATS THIS?
Dimm2 Clock Skew Control...............:[-400ps] AND THIS? (different on channel B compared to channel A...And these are default settings)

Why they are different from channel A.. I recon its supposed to be that way tho ;)

So anyways, im in norway, europe, and i get home from work in another 7ish hours. I will try your recommended settings when i get home and see if i cant make it to post ;) Thanks again mate!

                Re: EP45-DS3R Memory voltage problem

I am not so sure about those skew values, best to leave on AUTO. And yeah they would be different as they are a different physical distance from the CPU/NB and that is what it addresses

Do you have your ram plugged into the correct slots? 1 +3 or 2 + 4?

If not please fix that. If so then that may be why A is different then B, only one set of ram installed?

                  Re: EP45-DS3R Memory voltage problem

Both sets are installed in their corresponding slots (1,3 and 2,4) and the skew are set to this value by default, and not on AUTO. I didnt want to touch em, but then again im feeling kinda newb to this BIOS business..

I know how to get a pc up and running, and my knowledge has been enough in the past, but now im here getting some advice from you so i hope i learn something.. :)

I will fiddle around with it when i get home, ill first try the settings you gave me. And after that i will try setting this skew to AUTO and see if that makes any changes..

                    Re: EP45-DS3R Memory voltage problem

Ok, Yeah that sounds like the best way to test. I dont have P45 yet so I am not sure, still on P35 here and I do not have any of those options to learn about.

I have wrote a little on skews in the memory guide, but none on those specific ones

Good luck with your venture, and post back and let me know how it goes

Above settings worked so i set skew to AUTO aswell, and no problems so far.

So is there anything i should tweak, or is it all good to go now?

Thanks for all the help so far, its really appreciated!

Very well, im using the exact settings you told me to use ;)

Just wondered if any of those are "safe" settings, causing me to loose performance

Anyways, as i said my rig is working good for the time being, will run it through some more extensive gaming this weekend to see how it holds up as Lotro isnt putting max load on it.. ;)

Ahh well still... I ask because yes, I gave you safe ranges. And point there to why I asked for you to post what you were using is because I posted Ranges, so you saying you used what I gave you does not fully tell me what you are using

So please post what exact settings fully that you are using so I can be sure how to reply to further help you

Glad to hear you are running good! And please do not think I am upset or anything, I just asked for the full settings from you again because I indeed did give you safe settings and a wide range of ram timings to start with.

So yeap, things can be tweaked unless you are using all of the lowest settings I suggested, if that is the case then you may not be able to but I would have to see what you are using to advise

Hehe , i dont think youre upset mate, no worries :)

Computer is still rock-stable and im very pleased with your help. I will go over my settings when i get home from work and see if im running them all at the lower end of your ranges or not. If i feel there is room for tweaking i will post settings in this thread again and we can take it from there.

If you dont see anything here then that means that im satisfied and that i wont bother you until i get problems in the future (if that ever happens:P )

                              Thanks mate;)
