booting in overclocked mode not possible

Hi,

i over clocked my pc to from 3.0 to 3.64 Ghz and it is stable under prime 3 hrs. I can play games well, but every morning i start my pc for the first time, it reboots 3 times and boots with standard settings. Then i restart from windows and go to the bios, set it to 3.64Ghz and it boots normally without continuous reboot.

Board is a EP45DS3, Intel E8400, 2Gb OCZ PC6400 [email protected] Ati crossfire edition. Bios Version F4


What can be done to solve my problem?

Also if Windows did not shutdown correctly, the BIOS on next time you turn on the computer will behave exactly that way.

didn't solve my problem.

only after i changed these two additionally:

it worked.

Cmd was set to auto before and the value was shown as zero. Now I set it manually to 2.

Another question: What does mch latch do exactly? i thought since i have a fsb1333 wolfdale it is ok to set it to 333mhz. Or does the overclocking need the change to 400mhz setting?

That strap should be set to 400 because you are overclocked past 400 FSB.

Yeah you have a 333 FSB CPU but you are using it at 405 FSB. You just past the 400 Strap so you want to use 400 FSB Strap

Adjusting your FSB strap up and down will provide more memory speed options on the newer intel chipset boards and will also provide you with a faster speed at a given strap. The higher the strap the faster your computer will run up to matching FSB of that strap. So a 400 FSB strap kicks in at 400 FSB and will not balance out until much higher say 480 or so

Let me first say to Lsdmeasap that your Sticky's and posts on this board are fantastic m8. Since putting a fan on the northbridge I haven't looked back. However......

I have a EP45-DS3L (F8) with specs and a problem really similar to Tweakdown (which is why I decided to post here). My annoyance is when starting up (from cold only) is that it takes 2 trys to boot up, on the first try the fans spin up everything is looking good then before anything displays it powers down for 5 seconds, then it tries again and no problem, straight to windows.

I to am overclocking my e8400 to the tune of 400x9, only I have 4gb of G.SKill PC8000 5-5-5-15@ 2.1v

I followed your suggestions to Tweakdown.

However after changing Command rate to 2 (and saving as a different profile in the bios, another outstanding idea of yours) the m/b went into a cycle of power ups and downs (I had to laugh), so I had to reset the CMOS. Got back in and reloaded my last good set. Which is how I found out about command rate being the culprit.

I'll post my settings as it makes life alot easier.

Did you miss this one or are they both actually set to 14?

I would suggest you try a bit more MCH voltage for now. As for the rest of your timings, AUTO is no help at all really, especially with 4GB. Just because manually entering them fails do not give up, it just means they were not correct.

Can you download this and post me a screenshot of it running so I can see what Auto is actually giving you to use in windows? >>>

*NOTE* This is a "LIVE" edit Ram timings app, be careful if you do change anything, and do not use the save button. It is very helpful if you want to test something out a setting at a time in windows but CAN crash and freeze your PC for sure.

Command rate should be 2, 1 will not work on most all intel boards, and especially is not going to work with 4GB either.

So your AUTO for command was likely already 2, manually changing it to 2 would have no effect so you must have made other changes at the same time. Or AUTO was wrong on something else already.

Auto is for starting your PC when you first buy it so that it possibly works with most any hardware config, best to not be used if possible

LSDmeasap I tried both of your suggestions, but with no success, just the power up and down loop.

Then I thought to myself the gloves are coming off now, I tried to be nice to get you to run at 400mhz, now your gonna run at 500mhz.
So I [auto]ed just the memory timing settings once again so I could get into windows to see what memset was saying about my now 500mhz memory. (see below)

I then copied the timings back into the memory section in manual mode and what do you know it works a treat!

However, am I right in thinking that even tho I'm now running the memory at 500mhz, the timings are "looser" and therefore slower ? Certainly slower than the SPD profile EPP would have you believe.

The DDR3 recongition error seems common as Tweakdown screenie said DDR3 also.

Yes they would likely be slower, but only testing will tell you as that is a 100MHz faster so it may be better or worse. Only some benchamrks will tell you.

I can say for 1000MHz you should not need 5-7-7-19.

5-5-5-15/18 should work for sure since it is the Rated Timing For that ram, if so the next thing I would start trying to lower would be Static tRead Value

i thought my problem was solved, but after i booted up the last two days i saw that my pc shows the same behavior as number6's at the beginning.

To say it clearly: my pc didn't boot at all, then i changed turbo to standard and frequency latch from 333 to 400 and now i have the behavior number6 had
