I'm new to gigabyte mb and Intel CPU's, so if my questions seems easy sorry about that. I am putting together a new system just for learning to overclocking. I brought an E4300 and the above motherboard because of cost and ease of ocing. what I need to know is what brand and speed of ram do I need to buy. I am totally confused about both, some people say get some pc6400 thats all I need. Others say if mb will do pc8500 then I am better off to get that. I can't figure out what brand to use G. skill, crucial, corsair, kingston or ocz. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: memory GA-EP35-DS3L
No need to worry if your question should be easy or not. It is a good question, ram compatibility is often overlooked.
1066MHz (PC8500) ram is actually just 800MHz (PC6400) that has been tested to run at specified voltages and timings, and the user must manually Overclock the ram to run at 1066 anyway. Normally it is just a good set of 6400 ram with loose timings like 555-15 instead of 444-12, which the 8500 ram would run at if left underclocked at 6400.
So in the speed part of your question that is up to you, and what your FSB will be with your CPU, and if you plan to run at 1:1 Ram Multi (2.00 in Gigabyte boards). As Said above works in reverse as well, most 6400 if it is good will run at or close to 1000/1066 with looser timings like 5-5-5-15/18.
So really in that respect do you want faster speed ram or tighter timings with better performance? With your CPU I would say you should get 6400 ram, but either will be fine with that board
2X2GB will overclock better then 4X1GB, but neither will overclock as far/good/easy as 2X1GB
Feel free to post back if you have any other questions or need some help once you decide and get your ram ordered/installedLast edited by Lsdmeasap; 12-01-2008, 01:02 AM.

Re: memory GA-EP35-DS3L
I thank you for your fast reply, i will be ordering some memory this weekend either Mushkin or G.Skill.
the G. Skill I am looking at:
Newegg.com - G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory
Mushkin:
Newegg.com - mushkin 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory
You really explained it better and cleared up what I had been reading.

Re: memory GA-EP35-DS3L
I decided on the 996603 because of the timing and voltage. Also I like the
blue heat sinks and reviews were right on. Thanks for your help, I will let you know how it works out. Tell gigabyte you make this sale and I'm comfortable knowing I can get help when I need it.

Re: memory GA-EP35-DS3L
Mushkins are great, you will be happy for sure. That is a good choice, those are some of the newer models with PowerChips IC's in them. They will scale nicely and are warrantied up to 2.1v as well, but you wont need it, 2.0v will get you 950-1000 anyway if you wanted to run them at that.
Glad I could be of help, Post back anytime for sure
