  • External SATA ?

I am considering the GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DQ6 and am looking at the manual. It shows an external SATA bracket. How does this differ from E-SATA and if it's different, whats it used for? Hope these aren't dumb questions.

    Thanks

    Re: External SATA ?

If it's an external SATA bracket chances are it is eSata.

Here I found a good image to show you the difference: (Thats a sata cable which plugs into mainboard on left, and an eSata cable on the right)

Oh and don't worry, It wasn't a dumb question.

Thanks for the response. I think the external molex connector is what I don't get. Wouldn't any external drive with an E-SATA connection have it's own ac power supply?

      Thanks

I don't know why they would include an external molex connector, Maybe cause i don't have an immediate use for one. My board didnt' include one cause i've got the budget P31-DS3L.

The molex is for hard drive power outside a remote case. If you were temporarily connecting a new drive to check it out.
