  • P35-DS3P Fan start up problems

    Hi,

I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P Motherboard with quad core running XP, when I start up the fan kicks in on full automatically and runs really loudly which is no use as the PC is designated for music production.

If I then run the computer for about 20 minutes and then reboot, when it restarts it runs normally with the fan almost silent, as it should be. It's as if it needs to warm up!

Any advice on what can I do to remedy the start up problem would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

What fan do you mean, and where do you have it plugged into? What type of fan is it, PWM or not and what are you settings in the BIOS for fan control?

Re: P35-DS3P Fan start up problems

The noise is from the CPU Fan.
I have an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775), 3 pin PWM.

When running normally and quiet the CPU temperature is 47c with a fan speed of about 1430.
In the BIOS - I have the Smart Fan control method & mode on auto.
Please let me know what other settings you would like?

I also have another probably related problem, sometimes when I boot up the alarm goes off intermittently, having watched the CPU Cooler fan I notice that it doesn't spin when this happens. When I reboot at this point sometimes windows won't shut down.

      Thanks

Re: P35-DS3P Fan start up problems

You should try the intel choice, and PWM choice or Set to Voltage mode for 3pin For the intel choice you need to install the driver HECI QST off your motherboard disk

Thanks for the information, please can you elaborate a little.

I've had a look for the HECI QST from my disk it doesn't appear to be on there.

It may be a part of the chipset install, I dont see it on mine either.

I would try Method on legacy, and mode on PWM or voltage and see how it acts

Thought that PWM fans had to have 4 pins?

Re: P35-DS3P Fan start up problems

Yeah me to, He said PWM 3pin is why I said what I did. I think maybe it is not a PWM and he should use legacy and voltage as settings

                  Hi,

Here's the link which says 3 pin - PWM?

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775)

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

                  Thanks

Re: P35-DS3P Fan start up problems

It is a voltage fan, I do not know why the say PWM maybe just to try and get better sales making people think it is PWM.

                    Set to voltage

                    PWM is 4 pins only

                      Great, thanks for the clarification.

What do I need to set to voltage?

                      Thanks

                        In fan control >>>

                        Method to Legacy

                        Mode to Voltage

Thanks for the info. I've made the changes but they've made no difference.

Have you tried Auto, and Auto?

                            Or Legacy, and Auto?

If so, you may need a better fan, or you may want to try a new BIOS or previous BIOS's

Hi, I have a p35-DS3 board with freezer 7 pro.
it is a PWM cpu cooler with 4 pins. (much older version of freezer pro was w/o PWM, so had 3 pins probably)
anyways, I had the exact same problem of the CPU fan kicking into full speed at startup, seems that going to the bios and re-setting the fan speed control to auto (even if it was on auto) and saving (F10) the bios, solved that for me.
