    Re: DES+EIST+C1E or DES-EIST-C1E??

If you are overclocking no need for any of that!

But As far as I know you only need to be running at Stock speed (Or the speed DES software thinks is stock IE: what you were clocked at when you installed DES)

I have used it once to check it out, DES that is, with C1E and EIST and TM2 disabled and it ran for me

So I think it will run with them disabled, but not sure how "Properly" that will be

      Re: DES+EIST+C1E or DES-EIST-C1E??

I will bump up this thread , because even I , two years later , with the "latest" Bios F4 ,
I am unable to understand what Gigabyte had in mind with all those settings.

      1) I do not have any issue with EIST ( the hardware part on the motherboard - self controlled by Bios )
( controls by it self CPU clock and CPU core voltage )

      2) I do not have any issue with C1E ( Intel technology ) that allows the CPU to lower CPU clock ( speed-step technology ) ( Every motherboard with out the made by Gigabyte DES .. ( Total control power saving feature ) It will use the C1E to lower CPU clock ( and its controlled by Third party software from windows - Does Not auto adjust !! with out something to controlling it )

      3) The DES windows software, it is just a visual confirmation , of the automated selections that the hardware EIST ( the hardware part on the motherboard - self controlled by Bios ) does by it self .
      a) You can see the power savings .
      b) You can select power savings mode ( mode 1 or 2 or 3 )
      c) It supposed that you can control the C1E state of your CPU , even with DES hardware part disabled at boot .

And now the confusing part ... ( worth's reading )

      1) If I disable the EIST in Bios ( At its Bios boot I get an nag screen ) .. Warning: EIST deactivated .... Press a key to continue !! ( Why in earth to get such message at any boot ? There is no Bios setting to remove this warning system halt screen ,
Tried the Bios setting Hold on error : to No errors , nothing happened .

      2) The DES software utility , it loads on windows an system service,
that it looks that partially controls the EIST even if it is disabled on Bios boot,
and what it does are to enable EIST after loading windows.
Result: This service overrides the manual selection in Bios C1E ( Intel technology ) Enable - disable.

Where looks to be a bug ?
The DES software utility service it should not activate the EIST automatic CPU clock management at all ..ONLY the voltage management !!
      Explanation:
Because it by-pass the C1E ( Intel technology ) , and what the user see in the DES software utility are that the settings about CPU throttling (enable-disable) ( it does absolutely nothing)
Because the CPU are all ready throttling under the instructions of the DES software utility windows software service = EIST controls the universe again . ( even if the application DES never gets opened )

      DES latest version 2010 for P35 .

      Setup examples and suggestions

      Case No1 : Default .
      EIST enabled in Bios
      DES Installed in windows
C1E ( Intel technology ) Bios setting does not do nothing EIST overrides it !!

      Case No2 : Alternative setting.
      EIST disabled in Bios
      DES Not Installed in windows
C1E ( Intel technology ) Enabled ( CPU speed throttling enabled , but its unknown to me, when and where it will activated )

      Case No3 : Alternative setting.
      EIST disabled in Bios
      DES Not Installed in windows
      C1E ( Intel technology ) Disabled

Now, another untested thing are if you can enable from windows the C1E ,
even if in the bios are disabled.

I know that all those could sound as confusing , but they are ...
The bottom line looks to be , that the three above examples with all their sub settings,
they will help any one, to do exactly what he has in mind.

If any one cares to in-light us further , he is welcome ..

EIST must be enabled to use DES, so that is why you get the warning.

As for how the programs works, or what it is designed to do, I am not sure as not many people use it so we don't discuss it often here.

Maybe someone else will be able to better reply to your thoughts.

          Re: DES+EIST+C1E or DES-EIST-C1E??

I have conduct an all around, settings testing ..

          And found that :

          1) EIST overrides C1E

          2) C1E with out EIST and DES does almost the same job. (drops the FSB + voltage )

          3) There is only one way to stop the CPU from dropping FSB at idle .. By Disabling both EIST & C1E

And yes there is an unexplained scenario , that if some one more expert can help it will be great ...

And the question is : with what specific settings the DES software can truly control the CPU , from not dropping FSB in idle.

I have tested anything ... and I found no solution = the software does work as promised !

You can control the CPU in control panel, advanced power options as well, with C1E or EIST enabled (Not sure which)

The software is designed mostly to enable/disable power delivery phases, not adjust CPU FSB/Multi's so to speak.

It does not work ... that's why I nag ( way of speech )

The software was set by default , to not handle the CPU speed.
But even so it is controlled .. with the C1E disabled.

And so, I can only assume that there is an Bios bug !!

The control panel options work for sure in Vista/Win7, are you still using XP as listed in your sig? If so that may be why they fail?

Have you discussed this with Gigabyte support yet? If not you may need to, you can contact them here
GIGABYTE - Support & Downloads - Technical Support

Not trying to pass you off or anything, it's just as I mentioned most of the users here don't normally use that so I'm not sure how it should/should not work

                  Re: DES+EIST+C1E or DES-EIST-C1E??

I have an update about what I wrote above ..

                  1) If I disable the EIST in Bios ( At its Bios boot I get an nag screen ) .. Warning: EIST deactivated .... Press a key to continue !!

The update are, that by replacing the DDRII with DDR3 , the system does Not nag any more about the disabled EIST.

I do not have any explanation, but this is what happened .

                    That is odd for sure!

To use DES you need EIST enabled, so you should get the nag message anytime it's disabled and DES is installed/enabled.

                      Re: DES+EIST+C1E or DES-EIST-C1E??

I agree that is odd for sure!

But the fact that I was getting with DDRII " only" , the nag message , at BIOS Boot !!
I bet that at this moment , the operating system and the software , has nothing to do , with the Bios nag about EIST.

Plus, if the Bios has the ability to detect what software I have installed or not , prior using it ... then this Gigabyte motherboard it must have artificial intelligence ... ( Joking )

Well from time to time certain BIOS/boards have an issue with DES and that exact message, no matter what you enable/disable or even with DES uninstalled.

So it's very odd to hear you were able to make it act differently with just different memory, a new quirk from DES this week :)
