  • DS3L v2.0 + q9450 = no overclock

I have had a DS4 die on me which was running the q9450 nice and stable at 3.4ghz

But with the ds3l it is impossible to hit 400x8 for a 3.2 overclock.
Is there another bios i could try which works better for 45nm quads ?

I'm running the latest f8f beta bios now

What are your settings you are using now? And what is your Full specs?

3.2 should be very easy on most any board, copy back your settings for me to see if I see anything amiss >>>

Just a template I use to ask people there settings, pay no attention to the numbers in it, replace with yours

Crucial Ballistix tracer 2x2gb with the led lights (these run fine at 1110mhz in the board)Antec 500w (earthwatt) 1x 750gb samsung and 2x 320gb wd's

        Re: DS3L v2.0 + q9450 = no overclock

I would suggest you to try these settings in BOLD for 3.2 >>>>

        Disable EIST, C.I.A.2, C1E

        Robust Graphics Booster___________ [Auto]
        CPU Clock Ratio ____________ [8]
        CPU Host Clock Control_ [Enabled]
        CPU Host Frequency (MHz)__________ [400]
        PCI Express Frequency (Mhz)_______ [100]
        C.I.A. 2__________________________ [Disabled]
        System Memory Multiplier (SPD)____ [2.00]
DRAM Timing Selectable_______ SPD __ [Manual] tried Manual too
        Performance Enhance = [Standard]

        CAS Latency Time________________ 4
        Dram RAS# to CAS# Delay_________ 4
        Dram RAS# Precharge Delay_______4
        Precharge Delay (tRAS)__________ 12

Start with the higher timings I give and move them down ONE AT A TIME testing after each move

ACT to ACT Delay (tRRD)_________ 3-4
Rank Write to READ Delay________ 3-7 Use first >>> 9-11 May need 18 to start with but I doubt it
        Write to Precharge Delay_________ 3-5
Refresh to ACT Delay______________ 52-62 for 2x2 @ 1000Mhz or more may need 68
        Read to Precharge Delay__________ 3-6
        Static tRead Value_______________ 7-10
Static tRead Phase Adjust________ 1-31 << Leave on Auto or Zero or 1-31

        System Voltage Control____ [Manual]
DDR2 OverVoltage Control__ [+0.3V] 2.1 is plenty and 2.2 will kill those sticks very fast
        PCI-E OverVoltage Control_ [Normal]
        FSB OverVoltage Control___ [+0.1V - 0.15] tried +0.2 and 3
        (G)MCH OverVoltage Control [+0.1V - 0.15] May need +0.2 but not more
CPU Voltage Control_______ [1.25] tried lots all the way to 1.4

CPU voltage is something only you can find out best. I would think for 3.2 you would not need much maybe 1.3-1.35. I am only using 1.30 for 4Ghz on my Dual so your quad should surely not need too awful much to only get to 3.2

What cooler are you using, and is your NB too hot to touch when running tests?

Have you tested these sticks on a different board at stock to ensure they are not DOA? Crucial Die often and very quickly with even low volts, so you may want to check.

And also, I would suggest to pickup some other ram when you have the cash. I have found thru MANY posts enough to make me believe Crucial and GA boards just do not play well together. Neither do OCZ or Corsair, just my personal thoughts though. I do see people having no issues with GA boards and the above mentioned brands, but I see MANY more who do have issues

          Re: DS3L v2.0 + q9450 = no overclock

Try doing this and see if it helps you any

Save the settings you are wanting to use that you think/know are stable as a BIOS Profile using F11 on the main page, name the profile and hit enter. Then clear the CMOS with a hard drive or optical jumper on the Clear CMOS pins with your Power supply unplugged for about 10 minutes. Then remove the jumper, plug back in your PSU and then load the BIOS, hit load optimized defaults, save and apply and reboot back into BIOS again, then hit F12 and load the profile you saved and see if it works now.

Also, be sure you have Init First Display set to PEG2
