  • GA-EP35C-DS3R - Need 4Gig Ram suggestion.

Ok I just replaced my Asus P5K Premium with this board do to a no post problem. This had been a great board for the last 7 month and my Q6600 was running stable at 3.4g.

One night I shut it down (it's been pretty much running for 7 months straight) and then next day it failed to post going into a start up loop. So I decided to just replace it and picked the Gigabyte board. This was done with pretty much little to no research done on my part, which I hope I do not regret. I have 4 gig total of the Crucial Ballistix and it is possible that I have a bad stick of ram in the bunch.

Right now I'm only running 2gig and every once in a while when I boot I get a 3 beep, then 8 beep code before it shuts down and starts a loop. I shut it down and boot with just one stick and get it to post at which time I shut it down, reinsert the 2nd stick of ram and then it will start fine. So I'm sure there is a compatibility issue with this ram. (Maybe)

What I'm looking for is a 4gig option so that I can go back to running Vista and your memory compatibility list only shows one option for 1066. DO you have any other suggestions for a 4gig memory solution for this board?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

This is what I'm looking at to start, Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) . I see user reviews with people using this ram with the GA-P35-DS3L and was hoping that it would be compatible with this board. Though i know nothing is ever simple like that so please advise.

Mushkins and GSkill run great in GA boards, crucial do not. I suggest Mushkins XP or HP models

        Well I'm up in the air between the GSkill 8500's Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) and the Mushkin 8000's Newegg.com - mushkin 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000) .

Again I'm hoping to get back to 3.4gig on the Q6600. Will the 8000 have much limit on that?

            Re: GA-EP35C-DS3R - Need 4Gig Ram suggestion.

ok just ordered 2 sets of 2x2gig Gskill. I read some reviews on newegg with at least one person was using this board and running 8gig. For the price you can't beat it.

            Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000)

So I'll report back to let you know how I make out.

              Re: GA-EP35C-DS3R - Need 4Gig Ram suggestion.

Sorry to necro this thread, but it is on line with my situation.

              I am running the following:

              -Gigabyte GA-EP35C-DS3R mb
              -mushkin 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory
              -Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 Yorkfield 2.5GHz
              -EVGA 512-P3-N800-TR GeForce 8800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3
              -CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply
-ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler
              -WD 500gb primary HD
              -WD 500gb A/V secondary HD

This is running Windows XP Home. AVG anti-virus. Several common Audio recording programs: Cakewalk, Fruity Loops, etc.

Suffering 2-3 BSoD daily during mild operations. Haven't risked using the computer for live music recording in a studio.

Used several BIOS recomendations from This Post: http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/cons...r-vista-27113/.

Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

                Re: GA-EP35C-DS3R - Need 4Gig Ram suggestion.

First off, have you tested the ram one stick at a time at defaults speeds and voltages? DOA happens with all brands, and it is always best to do on day one before you start trying to use the ram. >>>

Timings I gave in that thread are for DDR3 not DDR2, which you are you using right?

I think so, So here is what you should use for 2x2GB of DDR2 Memory wise anyway, you will need to tell me your speed of FSB that you are using if you need me to let you know the Memory Multi you should use.

Static tREAD Phase Adjust - 0 AUTO <<< Leave always on AUTO or Zero Or 1-31
                Command Rate (CMD) - 2

No. I don't have the computer with me. If it continues I will try that.

Yes, I did adjust for the DDR2 in the setting I used (all well as I could figure out.)

I think I set it at 1066. I want it to run as stable as possible. (It is built for a recording studio and cannot afford a crash during a session.)

These are very close to what I remember setting it at. I will print these and take them with me to the studio when I go check back on the computer.

                    Re: GA-EP35C-DS3R - Need 4Gig Ram suggestion.

Ahh well yes, please test the ram if those settings do not help. And I left out CPU speed and ram mutli because I did not know your CPU speed, meaning what FSB you was using.

So if you know how to set the CPU and ram multi you should be good to go with the above settings.

Just incase, if you are using that CPU at stock here is what settings you should use for stock CPU speed and ram at or close to 1066 >>>
