  • Trouble overclocking EX38-DS4?

Followed the advice in the thread on overclocking here. Set my e6600 to 7 multi, 2 div, and 400 fsb. Booted okay at 2.8.

But I cant get anything better than that! Temps are great, at 2.8 under full load the cores were only at 44c. Kicked up the voltage a bit and tried some other combos of multi and fsb, no luck.

The board kept rebooting after F10, and then would load the defaults, like it couldnt even boot with the speeds I was trying for. Is it the 4x1G ram I have? the system is cool, but still no luck. Any suggestions?

Read an overclocking guide you need to figure out what your memory will do before oc'ing the CPU....
    Take care,

Post your full specs and Maybe I can help you better! What Ghz are you trying to reach?

Here is a templete, copy what you are trying and I will suggest to you some better settings. And yes 4x1gb of ram needs some tweaking. You do have off TM2, C1E, and C.I.A.2. and EIST right? If so it is probably just some settings you are trying that are not agreeing with your 4x1gb of ram

Copy this and paste back your settings, or post a image if you want >>>
      Robust Graphics Booster___________ [Auto]
      CPU Clock Ratio ____________ [8]
      CPU Host Clock Control_ [Enabled]
      CPU Host Frequency (MHz)__________ [450]
      PCI Express Frequency (Mhz)_______ [102]
      C.I.A. 2__________________________ [Disabled]
      System Memory Multiplier (SPD)____ [2.00]
DRAM Timing Selectable_______ SPD __ [Manual]

        Re: Trouble overclocking EX38-DS4?

Okay, heres what I am trying:
        Robust Graphics Booster___________ [Auto]
        CPU Clock Ratio ____________ [7]
        CPU Host Clock Control_ [Enabled]
        CPU Host Frequency (MHz)__________ [400]
        PCI Express Frequency (Mhz)_______ [102]
        C.I.A. 2__________________________ [Disabled]
        System Memory Multiplier (SPD)____ [2.00]
DRAM Timing Selectable_______ SPD __ [Manual]
        CAS Latency Time________________ 4
        Dram RAS# to CAS# Delay_________ 4
        Dram RAS# Precharge Delay_______4
        Precharge Delay (tRAS)__________ 12
ACT to ACT Delay (tRRD)_________ auto
Rank Write to READ Delay________ auto
        Write to Precharge Delay_________ auto
        Refresh to ACT Delay______________ auto
        Read to Precharge Delay__________ auto
        Static tRead Value_______________ auto
        Static tRead Phase Adjust________ auto
        System Voltage Control____ [Manual]
        DDR2 OverVoltage Control__ [+0.300V]
        PCI-E OverVoltage Control_ [+0.1V]
        FSB OverVoltage Control___ [+0.1V]
        (G)MCH OverVoltage Control [+0.1V]
        CPU Voltage Control_______ [1.375]

This boots and is stable at 2.8.

        But this:
        Robust Graphics Booster___________ [Auto]
        CPU Clock Ratio ____________ [8]
        CPU Host Clock Control_ [Enabled]
        CPU Host Frequency (MHz)__________ [350]

With everything else the same does -not- boot at 2.8. Doesnt even post.

        Make any sense?

          Re: Trouble overclocking EX38-DS4?

What is you ram? 2x1 or 2x2? If 2x2 then set refresh to act to 52-62 starting at 62, And if 2x2 then you may need a bit more MCH. And you could possibly need more CPU voltage. You could easily see if it is CPU voltage by setting your CPU voltage to 1.45 for a few and start it up and see. I do not recommend leaving it on this if you are using stock fan as that will get hot. And be sure if you do have 2x2 to try those settings first with the CPU voltage you have now.

If that does not work, then bump up the CPU voltage and see if that is the issue.

I should also tell you there is a "Hole" some call it at 400 or 1600FSB Try not to use 400, try above or below that like 405 or 395

            Re: Trouble overclocking EX38-DS4?

My ram is 4x1. Should I change something then? Also, TAT doesnt work on vista 64, that was really the torture test for the cpu. Made orthos seem like a cool breeze. Is there anything more rigorous than orthos?

Or could you say during normal use (gaming, editing, etc) I will never tax my cpu like orthos does?

              Re: Trouble overclocking EX38-DS4?

Ya you will never tax your CPU like orthos. There is a program but it is not needed for you to test with, it is just for torture of your CPU and I cant find a link right now....

But yeah, you wont ever max out your CPU like Orthos does anyway

And yeah for 4x1 some changes are needed, the same as mentioned above for 2x2 and if you have them time and want to the rest is best not on auto as well

                Re: Trouble overclocking EX38-DS4?

CORE DAMAGE (Use at your own RISK, Not a suggested stress tool) >>>
                CPU Stress Tester Version 0.8a

And yes it IS running as soon as you open it! So watch those temps. you can also make it a bit larger if you want.

OCCT is very good as well, I often DO use this >>>
                Download - OCCT Website english

As for TAT, did you try right clicking the file and choose properties and then run in XP mode? Sometimes that helps x64 bit run if it wont.

Ill install it (TAT) on my 64 here tonight and let you know if I figure out how to run it or not

Yeah just must be vista x64 no luck here. The readme says vista even though the app was made in 2005-2006, thats strange!!
