  • E6550 EX38-ds4 overclocking problem

    Hello, sorry for bothering you.
I don't know how to set it up of the overclocking, I don't know where the problems come from.(I prevously succesful overclock the E6300 L2 to 435*7 without any problem) I have tried to clear the CMOS
    My Cpu is E6550 , SLA9X, L722A956
    MB is EX-38 DS4 BIOS ver.f3
    video card: 8800gts 512MB
    memory, Crucial pc2 8500
    hard drive seagate es.2
    antec neo 500w
There are 5 120mm fan in my case, the system is running so cool,
CPU temperture is under 35 degree C while it's running the big application, the system temp is 40 degree C

At first, it could not overclock if the voltage is deafult.
I tried so many times, then I figure out 1.29746 is the only voltage that the e6550 can overclock to 380*7. I tried any other voltages no matter as high as 1.456 or 1.1333. It didn't pass the cabliration .
I have tried to add the voltage to NB, and FSB .
I set the PCI E in 103 and any setting as you recommened in the overclock thread.

Do u think the problem is the CPU not the setting of the MB

    Please help.

    Thanks

I am not sure what you mean by 2.9746V, what is that on? That is WAY to much. What is your default VID on that CPU? If you do not know, download Coretemp it will say on there

What is the problem? The overclock not sticking/working and causing a reboot cycle? Or is it not showing up as what you set it for?

Do you have C1E, EIST, C.I.A.2, and TM2 turned off as well?

Please copy and paste back your settings, add or remove anything you need to or dont have in your BIOS.

(These are not suggested settings, just a table to make it easier for you to show me your settings)

    Robust Graphics Booster___________ [Auto]
    CPU Clock Ratio ____________ [8]
    CPU Host Clock Control_ [Enabled]
    CPU Host Frequency (MHz)__________ [450]
    PCI Express Frequency (Mhz)_______ [102]
    C.I.A. 2__________________________ [Disabled]
    System Memory Multiplier (SPD)____ [2.00]
DRAM Timing Selectable_______ SPD __ [Manual]

    CAS Latency Time________________ ?
    Dram RAS# to CAS# Delay_________ ?
    Dram RAS# Precharge Delay_______?
    Precharge Delay (tRAS)__________ ?
ACT to ACT Delay (tRRD)_________ ?
Rank Write to READ Delay________ ?
    Write to Precharge Delay_________ ?
    Refresh to ACT Delay______________ ?
    Read to Precharge Delay__________ ?
    Static tRead Value_______________ 1-31
    Static tRead Phase Adjust________ 1-31

    System Voltage Control____ [Manual]
    DDR2 OverVoltage Control__ [+0.300V]
    PCI-E OverVoltage Control_ [+0.1V]
    FSB OverVoltage Control___ [+0.1V]
    (G)MCH OverVoltage Control [+0.1V]
    CPU Voltage Control_______ [1.25]

Are you SURE that ram is good? Crucial Die often, and Voltage kills them easy, Did you test those in another board, or do you have other ram you can use for now while you try to get your CPU overclock setup?

I guess the ram is good, I set up all the setting as defult expect the MEMROY

      they can run at 1110 5 5 5 15 stable in OR 2 hours.

I think they are still survied.

        Write to Precharge Delay____
Refresh to ACT Delay______52-62 Try higher here for while

        Read to Precharge Delay____3

Static tRead Value________5 Here is likely your issue #1 You will unlikely be able to run 7 let alone 5, I would try 10 and work down towards 7

Static tRead Phase Adjust____0 Or 1-31/Auto here

        System Voltage Control_manual___ [Manual]

DDR2 OverVoltage Control_+0.45V <<< WAY to HIGH! I would suggest you Use 2.1-2.2V ------2.25 is likely actually more then that after the boards send the voltage to your ram (Check in everest if you can, or HWmonitor) but I suggest 2.1, and only 2.2 if you have a fan on those, like I said before Crucial Die and it is often due to voltages and overheating. You will see 2.25 is not needed once you get the timings figured out.

        PCI-E OverVoltage Control_normal [+0.1V]
        FSB OverVoltage Control_normal__ [+0.1V]
        (G)MCH OverVoltage Control [+0.1V]
        CPU Voltage Control____1.29375___ [1.25]

If you want, I can suggest the rest of the timings to you, as AUTO is not always best, and can often times mess things up when overclocking

CPU voltage, you should be able to at least run 400+ with 1.45, and then bring down until it isnt stable, then bring back up.

What power supply are you using? And does it and your board have the 8pin connection? If so use it if you are not. A weak or cheap power supply will often cause instability as well

          Re: E6550 EX38-ds4 overclocking problem

I have tried the 1.45 V, it can not go up even 1 MHz, it even can't stable at 390 MHz,

The problem is this CPU seem like only work at 1.29733, not other voltage..
          oh my gob

the voltage of these pair memory is not that high, I have touched them, I feel they are pretty cool, My system has 5 120 mm fan.

i am using antec neo 500w PSU,
what's the 8pin? I guess this board doesn't have this connection

              Re: E6550 EX38-ds4 overclocking problem

Yeah it may not have the 8pin CPU connection, Or maybe you didnt notice it. Look and see if there is one, it is the 4pin, but there would be a little tab covering the other 4pin holes directly connected to it

Did you try the above settings, with 1.45, I dont think you have yet

It wont move any with Static tRead on 5, I am surprised you can even boot that, 6 is to high for that memory speed, and likely 7. I suggest you try starting with it at 10, and the rest of my settings suggested then up that CPU volt and try again. Without those settings changed I have no doubt you are correct that it wont budge any no matter the voltages, those are too tight of ram timings for that speed/ram

                Re: E6550 EX38-ds4 overclocking problem

                Thanks for your reply,
                I'm really appreicate that.
However, I have tried everythings you told me to do. doesn't work. I connect the 8pin , got the same setting as you suggest.
The trick thing is , if I raise the voltage to 1.435V, it won't boot up even it's only 380( it only can boot at V1.2937.

Whatever, I have contacted our dear Intel, wondering RMA it.
                if i can't , just ebay it.

Hmm well that is strange! Good luck, Intel should RMA it for you, but be carefull how you explain things. Get ya a 6750, or one of the new 45nm ones
