  • Help, EP35C-DS3R running slow, 8800GT stuck at x1 PCI-E speed

    Hello,

Last week I built a new system (Core 2 Duo E8400, EP35C-DS3R, Palit 8800GT Sonic, 2x2GB GEIL DDR2 800, XP). Running some initial benchmarks I noticed that it was only getting around 4500 on 3dMark06 and that the graphics seemed to be no faster than my old 7600GT card. I took a look at GPU-Z and it shows that the link width is only x1 even though the board is x16 capable.

I have tried a number of things to troubleshoot -- updated to F3B BIOS, changed the PCI-e freq to 110 mhz, reseated the card, etc. I have read a number of reports of this issue which appears to be limited to 8800GT/GTS in a P35/965 board.

Any suggestions? I'm about ready to return the mobo and pick up something else.

I would say 100-102 is best for PCU Freq, How much voltage are you setting for this in the BIOS?

Solved here, And A few other I see similar all stating it is the card/drivers and not the boards
    Code:
    http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/246923-13-build-bandwidth
More here, PSU and new board tested proving it was the card (See also Post 23 about PSU rails Voltages)
    Code:

Here the show PSU is the issues as well
    Code:

I would try the card in another system before RMA'n anything, see what is does in it

Quote from another user who fixed this >>>
I suspected- and many of you suspected Bios to be the place to fix.- so - I went back-to BOS
      loaded optimized defaults
      safe mode boot
      uninstall- drivers
      reboot
      reinstall drivers
      back to bios.- tweak bios
      overclock bios
      boot to XP -
      and get PCIE2.0 x16 goodness!
I had similiar problem, I purchased 2 BFG OC2 8800GT's, and 1 one of them only scored 3,800 on 3DMARK06, I returned it and my new one works fine
And hey, have to ask to be sure.....You are using the Right slot correct?

I have also read that if you have added NB voltage, changing it back to default, save and apply then go back and slowly raise it again if needed fixes the issue sometimes
